XM177E2/M16A1 Systema PTW
Update: 11/25/07 Got the Model 603 finished. See bottom of page
Colt Model 629 XM177E2 Well it's finally finished. My flash hider came in today (which I stripped and blued) and I cut the barrel down as close to 11.5" I could working from an M4 barrel. Recut the threads... Everything else is pretty darn close. Only real differences are the A2 style lower receiver, the barrel diameter, the PTW being a heavier barrel, and the stock. I do have an Aluminum one on but the original is Vinyl Acetate (record plastic) covered Aluminum. Only ever seen one used for sale, lasted about 5 mins and went for over $300!! and that was in the US. Have the bolt veneer mod in. Stripped the barrel and blued it... I put the Delta ring back in for accuracy as it was the older 609 with the 10" barrel that had the flat slip ring. I now have 12 mags converted to VN style. I will likely do 3-6 more... But for now it's done. -Systema PTW gen 3. with upgraded 490B motor for 11.1V Lipo battery -6.04 steel M4 barrel set cut to 11.5" and rethreaded -RS front sight (bayonet lug cut off) -RS gas tube -RS hand guards/ delta ring/ barrel nut -RS Colt A1 upper receiver modified to work with PTW -RS A1 grip modified for PTW motor -RS Aluminum Stock and tube modified for 11.1V Lipo battery -Vietnam Era Sling -Guarder flash hider -Modified Marui bolt veneer to cover PTW cylinder -RS Colt and others mags modified for PTW. There's alot of work here but I am very happy with the results. Real Model 629: And mine: Next project: Model 603 XM16E1 Handguards and stock just arrived today. Just waiting to get the full length barrel. Basically I'll just change the barrel and stock on the 629.... Last edited by SBranson23; November 30th, 2007 at 06:00.. |

That is friggin awesome. Excellent work! Gotta love the amount of real parts on that one. Only on a PTW. Perhaps one of the greatest airsoft AR's ever? I mean the PTW is top dawg already, but with so many RS parts, including an upper receiver? Impressive to say the least.
Cheers! Alex

Thank you all. I appreciate the comments. Like I said, a lot of work, learning and little changes to get a real authentic looking piece.
A big thing to really cap it all off will be a new lower with old style Colt trades. Still working on that one but gotta save a few pennies first. Have to get some better photos though... |

Wow Branson that's the best looking XM I,ve seen so far!!!!!
And it's cool to see a PTW that's not fully railed and loaded with tacticool stuff Now show us a pic with all your fine gear haha As for the A1, check with Moore Militaria, they have triangular handguard and old A1 stock

If I could ever get out to a game I would... Things are a bit slow out here.
Now I can't decide to go LRRP or SOG... |

Whatever you have all the correct uniforms
For SOG just buy some of those CHICOM chestrig, splotch some black krylon and tada!!! SOG RT For late LRRP just wear ERDL and use a medium ALICE pack without frame and there ya go!!!

Lipo in buffer tube? Reason I say is that you had the CAA stock Lipo mod on the first version.

I put the battery (11.1v 1200mah lipo) in the buffer tube. I have to extend the stock to the first stop but that's it.
Looks like this with the battery in: Last edited by SBranson23; November 10th, 2007 at 03:07.. |

Well I finally traded for an M16 length barrel so I have built my Model 603.
I am having a really tough time deciding whether I should try to lathe down the barrel to the proper diameter but it would have to retain the present one at the front sight base points so it would be a bit of a dicey job to get clean. Anyway, this is how it will likely stay for a few days anyway, ha. Except I added the front sling loop. |
