Need a 1911

Okay guys, I know nothing about airsoft so help me out here. I need a decent airsoft 1911 and don't know where to begin in my search. Could some-one point me in the right direction. Like I said I know nothing about airsoft, but I do a lot of shooting and need something to help me practice when I can't make it too the range. I carry a Wilson Combat CQB 1911 everyday and would like something as similar as possible. I don't even know what the price ranges are for airsoft guns, or what my money buys, so I can't give a price range.

First off, welcome to ASC.

Second, airsoft isn't amazing for markmanship practice.
Third, an airsoft 1911 will run you around $300-350.

Are you in the US? (your comment about carrying a 1911 leads me to think you might be...)

You have more options if you are, since you aren't limited to what's in stock from Canadian retailers. WA (Western Arms) make very nice 1911s, including a Wilson Combat CQB. It'll be plastic, however, but there are metal kits for it.

I've gotten good results with mine (a clone of the Springfield Armory Operator 1911), using a Guarder 150% enhanced recoil spring.

Yeah I'm in the US. I'll look into the Western Arms Wilson. What is it powered by? Seriously this shits Greek to me. Battery, Compressed air? The only airsoft stuff I've handled were cheap $20 spring powered POS that didn't seem durable enough to call a toy.

This isn't so much for "marksmanship" practice as practice shooting on the move or from concealment at across the room and closer type distances. The kind on stuff you can't practice at a conventional range. If it will hit center mass of a man sized target from across the room (15 meters tops) I'll be ecstatic. If it'll do it from half that distance I'll be happy.

Oh and as far as the age verification and profile I'm old enough to carry the real thing as a civilian and in the service of my country(Firearm not a 1911 specifically). Both of which I do. Take my word for it, I'm not 13. If I was I'd probably know the answer to half the questions I've asked.

Again, a quick google should tell you all you need to know and you probably know it already, but all GBB pistols run on gas. Hence the name Gas Blow Back! The good ones run on Propane. Get something with as much metal as possible in it, especially the slide.

Personally I love the KJW 1911 cause it's a full metal build. Frame, slide, barrel.

The plastic of a Western Arms GBB is better and stronger then the pot metal of the KJW... Since your in the US, just google the closest airsoft retailer to were you live. Go visit them, and if they are a decent store, then they should be able to answer all of your questions. From their, see if they carry a WA Wilson Combat or any other gun that suits your tastes. Make sure its ether WA or TM, both companies produce the best M1911's on the market.

Good gas guns can hit a target with relative accuracy 50+ feet. Great gas guns can do it 75+ feet.

Most of the "good airsoft pistols" are in the form of GBBs -- Gas Blow Backs. They're gas powered, and the slide will cycle as on a real pistol (and usually lock back on an empty mag, etc). There are three types of gas used, in order of power: Duster (the kind you find in retail stores for dusting), "Green Gas" which is actually propane, and CO2.

The vast majority of the guns currently on the market will run on propane. There are adapters available to allow you to fill your gun using commonly available propane tanks (the small ones you'd use for camping, not the big BBQ ones). Western Arms pistols are made to run on Duster, but with some aftermarket parts (like the enhanced recoil spring I'd previously mentioned) they'll be able to use propane.

With propane and a decent quality gun that's quite realistic. You can even add tightbore barrels, which help improve accuracy a bit (and thereby extend your range) if you feel the need.

Airsoft is adequate for CQC type setups (killhouse, etc), I know at least one facility in Oregon that did LE training used airsoft, also remember an article in SWAT [magazine] about using airsoft, a few years back.

If you feel like splurging http://www.uncompany.com/ has some very nice TM and WA 1911's pre upgraded with metal slides and possibly frames depending on how much you wanna spend. Just check under the custom gun section and then the colt/kimber/wilson link. since you from the states you can actaully order from them your self as long as you get them to paint the tip orange and hide unlicensed trade marks ect. then all you need is a propane adapter, a can of colman propane (or any brand really) and a bottle of light weight silicon oil and you're good for quite awhile.
