I made my own sector chip using led.
Anyhow... lately, i've been experiencing misfeeds on my AEG because i upgraded my battery to a higher voltage.... thus, i made my own sector chip using led. (yeah... soldering iron?!)...
Here's how i did it. 1. I melted the led to a tear shape, just enough amount of it to make the sector chip, on a smooth flat surface (preferably metal). 2. I used sand paper and file to re-shape the led. 3. drill it.. (in my case, i used a screw + screw driver... i hate standing up to look for our drill). 4. install it... If you have any doubts that your DIY sector chip doesnt fit tight, put a small amount of super glue. Since the led it soo soft.. i'm not sure how long it will last. btw.... the sector chip i made was the round type one.. wasn't able to take pictures... sorry...

It's way too soft IMHO and will just dirty your gearbox or may just destroy it if a chunk comes lose or the whole thing for that metter.

I just saw another thread.. and this time.. he used plastic.
but ey.. yeah led is so soft.. but i don't think that the plastic tappet plate would outlive the led.

It should work for sometime, though. The sector chip only pushes against the tappet, which is pretty soft itself. Can't remember how strong the spring attached to the tappet is, however.
Dunno why people just don't use acrylic or ABS like that one DIY guide does.

Is he talking about making a new nubbin' thing for the sector gear (aka half gear) that engages and pulls back the tappet plate?

heres a really important metallurgy lesson for you:
harder metals wear down softer metals just like metal wears down plastic good idea, and way to go, but its not going to last and when it breaks it runs the risk of doing serious internal damage to your gun |

Well thankfully, lead is just about as soft as tappet plate plastics.
Manufactured sector chips are typically made of brass. Some of the newer ones are even coated with what looks like a low-friction TN coating. |
