Noob Problem with PDW MP5
I have been wanted to get into airsoft for a while so when I passed by a Moving Sale with this gun on sale for $150, I couldn't pass the offer.Too bad I neglected to get more info from the seller. No manual was included either.
I know a lot about different guns but not too much about AEGs.This gun is particular however because it takes Gas in the mag and also uses a battery.I am having problems with the latter.I'm not sure what type of battery I need, and where to put said battery.I also messed up the internals inside the handle(look at pictures). http://img65.imageshack.us/img65/484/dsc00069vd8.jpg http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/2113/dsc00070yl2.jpg http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/3448/dsc00071iq5.jpg http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/8460/dsc00073ta5.jpg I just can't get the internals to go back together in their original positions.Sorry if I'm not being specific enough.AEGs are a little more over my head than I thought. So if anyone can get me information on batteries, that would help. Thanks in advance |

......Someone was selling a Classic airsoft gun at a garage sale? O_O''''''
Apparently, that's a Model Gun Company MP5KA4 gas-electric hybrid you've got there. They don't make those no more.

I don't think the internals should be THAT much different from other AEGs....I mean all I know is I load gas into the mag.Its the battery that I am having trouble with.

You'll get much more info and better answers at www.classicairsoft.net - there are other people with MGC MP5's there.

My lord you're lucky. That is a beautiful gun you have there sir.
It might take your standard batteries (AA or AAA) and they might be stored in the gas tube (the tube above the barrel). Ofcourse, this is going off AquaMarine's Gas/electric MP5K. As you can see, the front piece of the gastube is removable so you can insert some batteries. How much you want for it?

Anyone able to explain to me what the batteries do in a gas gun? Please, spoonfeed me, I'm lazy today (ok, am doing dishes, so my laziness is currently taxed.)
Thanks. And, lol! |

This is a total guess since I have neither looked up any information, nor have any interest in classic guns, but it looks like the electronics are used to actuate the valve which allows the gas to get to the bb... Some sort of solenoid perhaps? And some circuitry to count off three pulses (burst) and continuous (full auto)? I gotta admit, that is pretty cool...

I looked it up and it's just as Murdoch said. The electronics actuates the gas valve.

Burst was the only thing I could think of, but the trigger group is semi and full auto only, no burst setting. So I remain baffled.

Oh, you are right, I didn't even catch that... As far as electronics are concerned, not having to count out a three round shot would be a bit simpler, which is probably why it's not there... It's either one shot, or repetitive...
Can anyone correct that? Or is the reason because the K and PDW only have single and full auto modes? |

For the same reason the regular AEG versions don't have 3 round bursts. It's just too damn hard and inconvienent a feature for the manufactures to produce to any degree of consistancy and reliability (electronically, and it's not feasable to do it mechanically, not yet anyways). As for the batteries:

Ah, ok, cool.
Actually, speaking of recoil in gas guns, I had the chance to shoot a CO2 powered KSC Mini-Uzi a couple weeks ago, and holy crap does that thing ever kick like a mule into your shoulder! Sucks that it uses roughly a cartridge per mag, but still, pretty brutal GBB if you ask me. |

Yes it does. But that is one AEG out of all TM's AEG line up. When it comes to real firearms, there are more models that sport the 3 round burst than just the Type 89 (MP5 being one of them), and I'm sure the manufacturers would gladly replicate such a feature on every replica whose real counter part has it seeing as it's a hot feature to have. But they don't because it's just not consistant/reliable/feasable. I'd like to think of the Type 89 as an innovation in airsoft technology as opposed just another AEG in TM's impressive line up. I certainly hope other manufacturers pick up the idea. I'd really like to see ICS's next version of MP5s (version 5, I think) with mechanical three round bursts. Or even CA's MP5 sporting it (which ever version they are up to).
