Tokyo Marui Type 89
Hi. I'm new to airsoft, and was just given a TM type 89as a gift from my wife. Can anyone tell me the correct way to dissasemble this thing to upgrade it? And if so are there any digrams, manuals , video etc. showing this? Also sny recommendations about brands of upgrade parts would be greatly appreciated.

That is TM's newest model with the largely unknown ver.8 mechbox. Not many are in Canada, and very few people would have experience with it. Are there any local gun docs you can go to for advice? Would be easier than trying online.
General rule is your first time you shouldn't do it yourself alone, its a lot more involved than many think. |

re:Type 89
Thnx. Unfortunately not many places near Chicago even carry TM. I've called a few places, but they're like "Tokyo who"? I'd really like to upgrade to 380~400 fps without any major surgery. but not sure if parts are available. I've found a few articles online that were in Japanese , but they didnt translate too well with google or babelfish. I've heard the Ver. 8 Gearbox/mechbox is a "reinforced " one right outta the box from TM. , but i can't confirm this. Sure hope it is.

TM's mechboxes seem to get stronger and stronger as they go. As far as I know ver.6 is the strongest, ver.3 and ver.7 are also incredibly strong and can take 450+ fps upgrades with the stock TM mechbox shells perfectly fine where a ver.2 has a hard time taking 400fps without a reinforced shell. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the ver.8 was also incredibly strong. Its not so much that its reinforced, its that its a really good design that holds up well. The reinforced bit comes from the ver.2's on the market, the stock shells don't last too long when upgraded so you need to swap out your mechbox shell for a reinforced one. Ver.3/6/7 are incredibly strong to start with and don't usually need to be reinforced and are often mistakenly described as already being "reinforced" out of the box, its just a better design.
