Complete Noob/Paintballer Getting into Airsoft

Hey,
Seeing how some other guys i know are getting into airsoft, i finally decided to look into it and see just how different it was from paintball.

So a few questions:

Is Airsoft just a MilSim version of Paintball?*Sorta Answered*

Is the velocity adjustable on the guns?*Answered*

Is there such a thing as a good cheap gun? (IF i do get into Airsoft, it would be on the lowest of low ends)*Sorta Answered*

Are all Airsoft guns horribly "Un-Durable" as my brother claims?*Answered*

Should you wear more protection then you would for paintball? *Answered*

Is THIS: http://www.zephyrpaintball.com/product/AS-PAL-M8M any good?

If that isint, were can i get a good (yet cheap) M8?

And Finally, is it impossible to ship Airsoft stuff from the US? *Answered*

thanks, and please forgive me if these questions are ubernoobish and were awnserd 1000s of times before.

Thanks man, but really that dosent help me much, 50% of those are on legal issues, and the other 50% seems to be only for those with a 500+ price range.
I want to shoot my friends, not buy an exact replica! lol

I would have forgiven you if you did not ask this question
really. the FAQ has answered this so directly that I'm just going to assume you're under 14 if you say the FAQ has only legal answers

Hey common, i wouldent have asked that if I read the FAQ first.
I originaly wrote this out on another site, but after waiting a few hours with not even a new view i decided to just paste it here, i started looking in the FAQ AFTER i pasted it.

My G3 is 5 years old and its never broken down, the hopup has broken ONCE and miraculously fixed itself in 10 minutes, and its only ever had one jam from a black elite BB.
some guns are extremely reliable, poorly upgraded guns and alot of stock ones are not. Again, the more you pay the better the gun, just like paintball.
as for protection, i wear a pair of ballistic goggles, thats it.
some gas guns have adjustable velocity, standard AEG's require you to change the spring.
there are decent cheap guns, but it will cost alot more to upgrade from a decent gun than from a good gun.
It's illegal to import anything that looks like a gun (except clear with orange tip) into canada.
and the milsim aspect depends on your province. Manitoba is very milsim (IE military style training, no hicap magazines and some ops have realcap limitations)

Thanks, thats a whole let better then SOME of the replys i'm getting!
All the same, I don't "plan" (note its PLAN) to get heavily into Airsoft, i may play once a month or something with 3 friends who for some reason want to get a airsoft gun above paintball.
So just Awnser me this, is there a canadian store where i can order an M8 for under 150$? Quality matters not, if i want to really get into Airsoft I'll buy a new gun.

hehe fine I'll answer
depending on how realistic you want your gun to be
buyairsoft was carrying the BE "M8" but they don't seem to be getting anymore in the near future
there really aren't any stores that will match your price range right now

"Airsoft
Airsoft is a term used interchangeably to refer to one or both of the following subjects:
A game in which players participate in the simulation of military or law enforcement combat with replica military firearms and military-style tactics
A replica firearm scaled either 1:1 (or perhaps as a ‘mini’ or ‘3/4′). It may be of metal or plastic, and usually fires 6 mm or 8 mm spherical projectiles weighing 110-600 milligrams (known as “BB”s). "
(source: wikipedia)

and no there simply aren't any cheap "good" guns right now that's selling in stores
ASC classifieds might have some but you'll need to be age verified to buy

btw the real term for the gun "M8" you were looking at is an "AUG"
if you save up for a while you should buy the TM AUG
I own one and simply love it

Try using the "EDIT" function on your posts instead of adding a crapload of new replies.

It can be. There are some games that are very much milsim, with realistic equipment loadouts, ammo restrictions, etc, and other games that are simple skirmishes, and a lot that fall somewhere inbetween.

Not usually. On some high performance gas guns it is but the average gun requires you to change the spring.

There are inexpensive guns of better quality coming out (and note, when I say inexpensive, I'm talking the $250-350 range), but their long-term reliability is unproven. For an airsoft gun that you know WILL work out of the box and WILL work for many years with normal maintenance, you're looking at $500+

NO. FirePower makes horrible shitty guns, most don't even have metel gearboxes.

You mean Styr AUG? Look at A&A surplus, they have a BE AUG. But remember, you get what you pay for. Don't expect a $300 gun to work like a $600 one.
