ICS M4s' and crane stocks
Sooo... after some searching on the topic, I've found some old threads about mounting a crane stock onto an ICS M4, and seen some recent references to this being done. I'm hoping we can make an up to date thread about problems and solutions for this. Who'd like to tell me about what's involved in getting one to fit on and wire up? Which brands work, and do you need to use the Crane stock buffer tube or modify the existing ICS tube? Pics of install work with wiring would be killer. Thanks in advance!

As you know, ICS guns do allow for the big stock screw to travle through what would be the buffer tube on a real gun and into the spring guide, as most companies do. This would not allow you split the recivers to swap uppers without removing said screw first. So what they do is make a removable "buffer" tube that is attached to the lower receiver with a big screw. This can be replaced as ICS sells this as a spare part. This piece is what any aftermarket stock will mount to.
On stock ICS guns, there MAY some fine-tuning of this "buffer" depending on the stock, with wire holes required for crane stocks. However, you can also buy a Marui-spec version of this part from ICS, so modifiactions should be relegated only to wiring holes. You will need to use a very short screw for the new stock tube, but the length of which will depend on the tube.

Now this is from what I have read, and not what I have experienced first hand as I installed a G&P Crane Stock on an ICS. My problem was not the screw, but the stock stem, which is different than TM's, was too long which caused the tube to not stay put (it moved about an inch back and forth). Seeing that you can't cut it off because you have to screw the bolt for the stock into it, I ended up epoxying it to the stock stem and leaving it more of a permanent mod.
From what I have read, the Prime Crane stock is the only stock that will actually fit the stock stem without much modification. Meaning it'll actually screw onto the stem itself and no need to figure out a new way of attaching it on. Here's the link I found this info on http://68.113.1.17/jokers/forum/inde...opic,84.0.html And just to highlight it and make things easier for you: - According to the air smiths at Guns n Guys in Hong Kong, the Prime Crane Stock will fit and without replacing the stock stem. However, a hole needs to be drilled at the bottom of the stem closest to the body for the battery wiring. I also found something along the same lines on Arnies, but I can't ever find things again on their... Hope that helps

I did my ICS up with a Prime Crane stock also. No problems with the install, but I ditched it pretty quick as I didn't like having such a wide and heavy stock on my gun. PEQ all the way for me baby!

Is the G&P cranes fully retarctable with a 9.6v?

I replaced my full stock on my 2006 ICS M16a3 with a Classic Army crane stock a few weeks ago. I guess I should have took some pics during the install.
It wasnt very difficult and turned out really nice. The only mod I had to do was a little dremeling on the ICS receiver stem splines to make them slide into the CA buffer tube and remove the wiring plug that was near the receiver. I then had to go down to the hardware store and pick up a 10-32 1" screw. This screw goes throgh the buffer tube and into the receiver stem which, on mine, was already threaded and where the ICS full stock bolted to. Therefore I didnt have to run the screw all the way into the receiver. The M4 might be a little different though, especially if it is not a full stock. There will also be some rewiring on a non full stock model to get the wires to the rear. I have a 9.6v 4200mah crane battery using deans connectors in mine and the CA stock will retract fully. Here is a pic of mine with the stock installed. If you need more pics or explanation when you begin the install, just let me know. I will be happy to take mine apart and take some more pics. |

Awesome information folks, thanks a lot! Now, it sounds like using the ICS adaptor that goes between the lower receiver and the stock from a solid stock model makes this near painless. Oddly, I'll also need a second one of these, since my club isa converting an old ICS M4 to a fullstock to use as a loaner gun. I've been all over the ICS website, and I can't find that part and it's part number. ANyone happen to know what the part # is??
