Interesting mod idea

Hi again!

I just came up with an interesting idea for my airsoft shotgun.

The sound of my gun firing without ammo is easy to notice when I'm inside, but outside, I rarely make the difference between "ammo" and "no ammo".

What I want to do is to install a small LED attached to a button battery that would light only when there is no ammo left. The plastic pin between the BBs and the spring would complete the circuit when it reaches the top of the magasine and the LED would light up. I attached some quality paint artwork to explain my plan.

I'd do this right now but I don't have any superglue and I gotta buy a battery that fits in the mag. Is that a potentially good idea?

Yep, System PTW use a similar concept to stop firing when you run out of ammo. The question here is that now when you run out of ammo and have to quickly change a new mag, won't the other one keep lit (being out of ammo) and eat your battery and glow annoyingly?

You might want to put it gun side. It will light up a small light on you mag well when the connection is complete, but remove the mag, and it will be off.

I wouldnt remain lit if the light is on the gun and only turns on when the thing in the end comes in contact(removed when mag is pulled out).

The big problem...Night games are the best, and you empty a mag at night, light comes on....your fucked.

also, a light in the day can be almost pointless with the sun out.

HA!
That's where you're wrong pal! If I had the money to order another mag, I wouldn't spend my time trying warranty-voiding DIY experiments After all, a 100BB mag would cost me around 20$ with the shipping.

I'm simply going to insert one BB in the mag' after the game ends to save some battery, even if a pack of 6 batteries costs 1$ and lasts about 2 week for each battery.

For the light, it's a small LED from a car charger. It's really weak and could'nt allow someone to read with it. However, I don't know what will happen when the sunlight will make the light unnoticeable.

The light will be IN the magasine so it's more robust. The light is weak so I will stay unnoticed.

Umm, what in the blue balls are you talking about?

.. How are you going to complete the current?

There's going to be BB's in the way...

And.. if your Magazine is metal the circuit would be completed anyways... only to be awfully disrupted whenever some one touched it ect ect.

... The little thing that pushes the BB's is plastic in most magazine cases...

Wanna make a more detailed drawing?

How is the LED going to light up when the mag is in the magwell? Unless it's a clearsoft of course.

Also, similar thing has been done before.

lol, it IS for clearsoft.

The idea is not too bad as seen with http://www.syste.ms/g36c/index.php . If one keeps the majority of the electronics gun side, you can run the sensor off the main battery instead a battery for each mag. Of course, it seems that he only has one mag and his whole gun will glow clear when the light turns on, so yeah...

In that case, it's even easier for him!

Use the green Crosman shitty BBs, Green on clear is pretty easy to see if you have anymore ammo. ROFL.

Well, its clear, but yet I can't see the ammo left. However, since the mag is 100$ plastic, I'm gonna replace the small plastic thing that pushes the BBs (in front of the spring) by a homemade metal one. Whenever this "thing" is touching the end of the mag (when no ammo is left), the circuit will be completed by the "thing" and the LED will shine. The whole thing will fit in the magazine, totally independant from the gun.

I was about to do it but the batteries I took out from a dollar store laser pointer were not working, gotta spend another buck.

just use a few colored BBs when you first load your magazine so you will know when you are running out. this will not work for night games but it would for daygames regardless of the situation. Its cheap and you will prevent you from dry firing your gun. The circuit idea would probably work but it seems unnecessary unless you are playing a night game. do you know how to solder? It that case I would use a red LED and paint the bulb in such a way that would make the indicator discrete.

0.12g BBs sound different when fired. The pitch of the shot is higher, is how I know when I need to reload asap with my AEGs
