If I were to make Mortars that could be used in airsoft... Would anyone be interested

Hello, I'm currently in the final stage of prefecting an airsoft mortar. It works using compressed air, and a piston system.

... I'm not going to devulge too much information about it.. because once I get it prefected I hope to sell them on the boards here... (Once I get pictures and video I'm going to be talking to HOJO to make sure everything's okay with it.)

Once I'm finished I'm going to get the thing checked out and okay'd by the Manitoba Airsoft Association council.

You can only see the news paper, but you can hear the tennis ball hitting the trap., Most shots are taken at around 40-60 PSI)

Information about it:

It's about 4' in length, and has an effective range of about 200 feet... There are different types of ammunition that can be used, One of them is a capsul filled with used BBs, when fired the thing bursts on impact and sends a shower of BBs all over the place. It can also be loaded with a sabot and made to fire pretty much anything you want.

I'm hoping to add options to the methods of filling it, One of them would be an air compressor... But that's a little difficult to bring out into the feild so I'm currently prefecting a method to fill it using bike pumps and step-pumps.

Is there anything that you would like to see in the form of options?

And would you be interested in one of these things?

My mortar doesn't use any propellant at all. And is capable of ranges of several hundred feet.

200ft isn't THAT far, since most airsoft guns can reach 125fps pretty easy.

However, I would be interested to see how accurate it would be at 200ft. If it doesn't hit the intended target, that would be a waste of a capsule of BBs, and a capsule you'll probably never find again.

and phenom most airsoft guns start becoming innacurate after 100ft and consider things like wind and leaves getting in the way. I think 200ft is great especially if there are some guys behind cover for instance.

Hope you guys understand the difference between a mortar and an aimed "splatter gun". Mortars are an angled weapon which drops a projectile vertically on a target. Proper mortars are not "aimed".

Technically they are, you roughly aim it but nothing like what was shown and I think it was fimled that way strictly for demonstrating it.

Sounds need, I'd like to keep updated.

Not aimed in the conventional way with a sight having picture of the target. The mortar is generally brought in by a foo party. The mortar is an indirect fire weapon.

With a BA, you can reach about 150ft pretty accruately, 175-200ft is possible to hit a man size target. And you lug around a lighter unit than a bulky mortar.

It would be useful to launch one into a bunker, but that's all I can think of.

Don't forget hills. I find that often a hill, being the dumb creatures they are, would jump right between me and a target, causing my otherwise accurate shot to miss.

How exactly do you plan to make a safe, reliable, and inexpensive airburst round?

And BTW folks, JSOC here in Winnipeg and Lance Co. in Sask have been making and selling compressed air mortars for years now. Nothing new here.

I made my own and did a test at the local field.

Hair-spray "mortar" with various projectile designs. Lets just say whenever i fired it, it scared the fuck out of people around me who were not expecting it.
It is loud and it is mean.

Shell A: Went somewhere fast, didnt hit perform as expected - FAIL
Shell B: Hit the target where i was aiming it, performed as expected. BB spray on the ground was approximately a 2m radius circle - PASS
Shell C test 1: Shotgun design. Covered a 2x30+ meter area when aimed at a 45 degree angle with apprx 1000BB charge - PASS
Shell C test 2: Aiming straight up with apprx 500BB charge, covered roughly 20m radius circle.

Capable of firing sabot rounds of various loads to 100+ meter range with good precision.

In all tests a charge of 3 seconds was used.
Can perform better with a longer charge. 3 seconds seems to create perfect air-fuel ratio for 90% ignition rate.

Drawbacks:
-with lower temperatures fuel does not atomize properly, requires longer charge. Ignition rate goes down to 50%.
-spark leads get covered in waste produced by combustion reaction, require a quick wipe (fingers do fine) every 2-3 shots for 90+% ignition rate.
