Reducing motor whine
I really like my CA guns but I find the motor is a bit whiny. Before I go dropping $60 on an EG700, can anyone confirm for me that TM motors do in fact whine less and will make an improvement? I've played with the motor height and that's not the case, just curious if swapping the motors will be of any benefit. Thanks.

I only have experience with whatever motor's in the CA33E, and it's quieter than a similarly adjusted EG700 in my G&P M4. Besides, you should be paying $40 for an EG1000, not $60 for an EG700. Are you positive it's the motor making the whine? If you really want to buy a new one, get a SystemA Magnum or an Eagle Force on a WGC order:

I swapped a ICS 300 motor out for a systema high torque. Whine went away but rof went down.
So my experience yes, changing the motor will reduce noise. Also I believe improper gear meshing causes whine too. |

Screw adjustment might help.

Definately the first thing to adjust, but do this in very small increments. If it starts to sound like the motor is trying too hard or the sound gets louder and high pitched, then go back, you've gone to far and can wreck the pinion gear on the motor.
If this doesn't help you, the new systema motors that Harley has recommended (Magnum, Turbo) will reduce the sound somewhat, they are the newest and currently best in AEG motor technology. Also, if you increase the ratio of piston bang to gear/motor whine noise, it helps your mind accept things. If you can get an inner barrel that goes out (very slightly) into the flash hider instead of ending inside the outer barrel, the 'bang' seems slightly louder. Ball bearing aluminum piston heads also increase the racket at the risk of damaging the gear box. Also along these lines, an upgraded spring will make it louder as you go up in rating, but going this route, I would recommend a silent piston head ironically. They don't really make it quieter, but they protect your gear box from some impact. Mind you, I think CA's are already upgraded over a standard Marui, so use my last two suggestions at you own discretion.

Thanks guys. As you may have noticed from my first post, I've already played with the motor height. I want to eliminate the whine, not make my gun louder. I recall someone once saying that this noise was intrinsic to full metal M4s and not really avoidable, though I don't know if that's entirely true. I know my SAR M41FS certainly didn't have any whine, though my M249 is currently the worst offender.
I'm hoping that for the latter, Escort comes out with a classic conversion shortly. That would be awesome. |

Perhaps it's the shape/cut of the pinion gear that makes the whining so pronounced? I know when I've worked on guns that whine, like ICS, gear lube on the pinion and bevel gear reduce the whine substantially. Altering the way the pinion displaces air (different pinion or gum it up with lube) would change the sonic characteristics of the motor assembly, would it not?

Ya I know my ICS is so loud sometimes, and I dont even have alot of ICS stuff still in it. I think I will try some more lube on the bevel/pinion tho.
Good tips!

If you find a way to _eliminate_ gear noise, I for one would like to know. After my research into it, it seems its part of AEG life though there are ways to reduce it as mentioned.
Being that the whine is always there in some capacity, making the gun a bit louder shrouds it somewhat hence my suggestion. The Systema Magnum motor really made the major difference though, highly recommended.
