[Need Advice] APS Type 96 barrel in a CA36K?
Well, I finally remembered about my butchered type 96 parts in the box and I thought to myself, "Wait a tic, could I fit that longer inner barrel into my CA36K?"
Granted, the CA36 has a much shorter barrel (355mm compared to the 96's 500mm) but that's what a silencer or maybe the full size barrel are for. My questions is: Would it be worth putting the barrel in? I've done a lot of Google and forum searches for the stock inner barrel diameter for the 96 but so far haven't found anything so I'm guessing that's it's 6.08mm. Still, the added length would be an improvement over 355mm right? I also know that I'll probably need to buy a better cylinder (ported?), spring, spring guide etc, but would it be worth it? From what I've read about too much backpressure, would cutting the barrel shorter be a good/disastrous idea? Now all I need to do is find a guide on how to change barrels... If I do decide to do this, I'll remember to take pics and write it up because I don't think I've seen this posted here on ASC before, and if it has, then oh well, darn. Any information or scoldings would be appreciated

The 96 has a completely different barrel than an AEG. They are not compatable from what I understand. In order to put an AEG barrel into the 96, you need to use the PDI hopup so I guess the reverse would be true.

hmm, looks like this will turn out to be a nice project! thanks SKI!
PS: any type 96 users know the diameter of the inner barrel?

Yup. Ill have to second that. The stock type96 barrel is defferent then the standard AEG style and wont fit into an AEG hopup. Stock barrel bore is 6.08 if memory serves.

Hell, you can do anything with enough money. I once put a 1.8 intercooled turbo from an '88 Madza 323 GTX in my '91 Escort GT. With the right motivation and plenty of cash anything is possible.
If you really want a longer barrel, get a Systema 6.04 brass tightbore for a TM SIG550.....that's 534mm. I have one in my TM AK.

i've checked around and i can put an M4/550 363 barrel in no problem. it's only a 10mm ish difference. bit pricey tho.
Skruface: I know what you mean, my cousin frankinstien'd an SR20DET into his puny integra. why he didn't buy a 240sx and convert it to a silvia with the same money, i'll never know... maybe he just likes the looks of integras?
