Western Arms CQB Upgrades?
I recently picked up one of these that was used with maybe 100 rounds threw it:
http://www.wa-gunnet.co.jp/english/custom/wa-wlo.html Out of the box WA guns are known to run on 134A. What exactly is needed to get a gun like this upto the 350~400 FPS range? I've seen a few people claim they own WA SCW series guns shooting upwards of those ranges and I'm curious what you guys recommend for upgrades? I have the metal parts already but what internal upgrades do I need to be looking at? |

are you using it as a range gun, or for actual sidearm use? Thats pretty punchy for a sidearm. Anyways sorry i didnt answer your question, just thought id ask.

The biggest upgrade is propane, so that means either an AI flow restrictor or a metal slide plus upgrade recoil spring. To use propane, you should also be using an upgrade hammer spring. Beyond that, the only things that really help accuracy and range are a better barrel and high flow valves. ILLusion is a huge fan of the Tanio Koba twist barrels, so if you're going all out pick up one of those for sure. Make sure that the inner barrel isn't moving much inside the outer barrel, and that the outer barrel doesn't have a huge amount of play against the slide, as those are two huge factors that influence accuracy that most people ignore.

I don't think there are any Tanio Koba twist barrels available for WA pistols. You'd have to custom machine the mount.

I assume too much. Get a Guarder one then, they make them I think.

We do play some quick pistol only games at the end of the day when people are getting tired. For this I break out the Marui Mk23 SOCOM which is shooting about 320 FPS. Just looking to move over to a 1911 that is kinda SWAT / Tactical style. Needs to be a tad more powerful then the Mk23 though. It just doesn't have the range I would like for our pistol only games. I'm the manager and tech for EmpireAirsoft.com and I'm almost embarrassed to admit I don't know shit about the AI flow restrictors. I actually have some of them sitting here but I've never used one. I guess I thought the reason was to lower the power of the propane so it wouldn't break the gun in such a way that it would bring the power back down to the levels of 134A. I guess I thought it was more because propane is cheaper then 134A, not so much a power upgrade. |

I couldn't give you an accurate estimate. If I had to guess I'd say 325 to 350 around 25°C.
The AI FR is installed in the blowback chamber, and it reduces flow only to the blowback mechanism. Shot power is not affected. |

And this is without any high flows installed? The FPS that is.
Thanks for the info on the AI FR, never bothered to open one and watch the CD.

With. Again, all complete conjecture. ILLusion or MadMax would probably have a much better idea than me.
Unfortunatly, AI.com is still down, but there were some excellent install videos on there, the same I'm assuming that are on the CD. |

Yes they are on the CD.. I happened to look at it lastnight.

I installed the AI FR lastnight and chrono'ed today on a Shooting Chrony Beta. On green gas, its shooting about 300 FPS on .20gr Stealth BB's.
So far the only mod this guns had done to it is the AI flow restrictor. What else can the plastic slide handle for mods that will get the FPS up another 50~75 FPS? Finding a metal slide for the WA Wilson Combat CQB is next to impossible so I gotta be careful not to break the plastic one.
