At what FPS will .25 start being effective in bush games?
I'm currently upgrading my M16VN... and I'm wondering if 300(ish) with .25 FPS is good enough to punch through light bush?

Yeah... Stock guns will perform well in the bush with .25's. 300 FPS isnt a big gain as most AEG's shoot 280ish stock.
.25 is the ammo of choice for AEG's in the bush to go threw alot of brush, foilage, ect.

Something to keep in mind is that switching from 0.20g BBs to 0.25g will give you a better performance increase than staying with 0.20g BBs and increasing the velocity. I know it's not your question, but I'm just stating a fact. At first with my MP5 I found that 0.20g weren't that impressive at punching through brush, so over the winter of 2004 I upgraded it to 350fps, and still had a supply of 0.20g BBs come March when I started playing again. I still found that 0.20g BBs flying at 350fps would be easily deflected by light foliage and mild dead grass. When I switched to 0.25g I had to go through a learning curve because where it'd take me a couple dozen BBs to get through brush to register hits on a guy, even 50-60ft away, it'd generally only take a coupel quick bursts with 0.25g to do the same. Hence I overshot a couple people early on because I wasn't used to the performance improvement.
So, if you do a mild to moderate upgrade, say 330-350fps and go with 0.25g, you should be totally fine in performance. Overall I generally try to get guys to not upgrade to 400fps or as close as possible just because it's not really needed, and oft times frowned upon, at least for newer players. If I can smoke a guy with my MP5 150ft away with one burst of 0.25g BBs going at 325fps, I'd say it's pretty good. And brush penetration is still rather good. Just watch out when playing against guys who use mostly 0.20g BBs, they might call you a cheat because you use a bit heavier ammo. Happens more than it should, once is even too much. Lol |

IMO when it comes to CQB its more of a personal prefernce of .20 or .25 there is no foilage to penetrate through; one just feels more impact upon a .25 and a louder "SMACK" than a .20.

Allright... So I'm going to get the SystemA 1J full mechbox, and toss in a slightly heavier spring to get it up to 330.
Thank you all for your responce. |

Did anyone at all notice he's 16?
Amos? Where do you play (legally) and who sold you a gun? |

My gun was sold to me by a neighbor that didn't want it anymore... I'd been looking into the sport for a while, and when the opertunity arose It was hard to pass up. I'm quite aware of all the issues with underage airsofters. I know about the whole grey area that is Airsoft in Canada. I'm not going to use my AEG off the feild, I'm not going to shoot it in my backyard, nor am I going to do anything irrisponsible with it. Until I'm somewhere that allows me to LEGALY use my gun, It's kept in a locked gun case. I'm not playing as much as I would like to, because of the age issue, But I'm learning as much as I can, so when I'm fineally able to play legaly, I'll be well versed and as knowledgeable as I can be. Here's my question to you: What's better? A well versed, responsible 16 year old; Or an 18 year old that feels he can do whatever he wants because there's no age restriction on him? |

It's fine that you seem mature and willing to follow some rules, glad to hear it. But what happened should not have happened at all.
Right now, you are paying for the extreme stupidity we see other under-eighteen we see every day (mostly in the trash bin). At 18, an idiot is responsible for his own idiocy. There are solutions for that. You cant compare the two. Less than that, it means several illegal things happened. At 16, you are not LEGALLY responsible for yourself, no matter how mature you are. I'm glad you realized the problems you are facing and doing the right thing. Nevertheless, your age did raise flags. |

I like using my above statement just because if I can do it with what I have, short barrel included, then anyone else can do it too, thereby dispelling the myth that one needs to run hot guns to get that kind of range. |

guess you boys their at canada are very particular with age.
where i play, kids 11~13ish are very hard to hit  got creamed by a kid last weekend (yeah im a loser) although there is an age limit here, you cant stop the dad's from bringing their kids to the game site, suiting them up and arming them AK's and M4's. and to answer your question, i use .25 on my stock CA. works great in the bush!

Amos- you seem mature for your age. It's good to see.
Yes, .25 and 300fps will work quite well in the bush. .20 and a higher fps won't do much good if its being deflected by light foliage. Of course, higher fps with .25 in the bush would be even better. But, you also mentioned CQB, and if it's the bush you are referring to, you should be aware of the limits. |
