Cheap chrono
I found this cheap chrono on the walmart sight while looking for a scope for my airsoft gun. Take a look http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=4382669

That's about average cost for a chrono, not really cheap.

Thats $US and not available in Canada BTW. So, not much of a deal.

The pop can test (which isn't accurate) or use the computer with 2 mics is a cheap chrono. (you can search this one up)

you don't need 2 mics, one will work fine, just mesure your shooting distance, and the amount of time between the sound of the gun firing, and the sound of the projectile hitting your target and do some math, and you then have your average velocity for that shooting range, but you won't have the actual muzzle velocity.
If you want to be really precise you would have to factor in the placement of your microphone, and the speed of sound at your locations altitude. or you could get 2 microphones, and have one record the sound of the gun, and the other record the sound of the projectile hitting the target, then record the time beween each noise. and the closer the microphone is to the target and the gun the better. |

Pfft, I just shoot my cat... the higher it jumps the more velocity I've got.

But I checked Wikipedia just now to confirm, and it says altitude has no effect on Vsound, per se. Pressure and density are irrelevant, all that matters is temperature (which will be lower higher up). Anyone else heard this, or have independent confirmation, Wiki is good, but not infallible. |

all i heard was that skydivers, and anyone else falling from greats falls gaining speed until they reach maximum velocity... one hundred and thirty something miles per hour i believe it was, but not sure. once something reachs that speed it doesnt go faster, and doesnt go slower nless something like a parachute...or the ground makes it. If i recal this is also the reasoning behind why everything fallas at the same rate.

Read my post, and then you'll see that you only need 1 mic. Also download a program called Audacity, it's very simple and easy to use.

the thing about skydivers never reaching the speed of sound is simple, each thing has a terminal velocity witch is base on weight shape.... cause air creats a resistance witch is why stuff reaches a maximume speed and cant go faster, so each thing has diffrent maximume speed.
