Tokyo Marui Type 89
Tokyo Marui is gearing up to release its latest AEG. The company showed its prototype off at the yearly Japan Hobbyshow. The Type 89 5.56mm rifle is used by the Japanese Ground Self Defence Force. This new airsoft includes the version 8 gearbox and will actually have a working burst function – it will be able to fire 3 shot bursts!! It weights a hefty 3.7kg and excitingly this gun, a first for a Tokyo Marui, will feature a metal receiver!
Most airsoft users in the States will have not of heard of the Type 89, but predictions are that it will be a huge hit. The unbelievable news about this Tokyo Marui airsoft is that the Type 89 will be made of metal! How exciting is that! The upper/lower receiver, barrel, bi pod, and everything like the real life gun is made out of metal! The trademarks and other markings on the weapon are identically the same as the real gun which makes the Tokyo Marui Type 89 an awesome replica. Now let’s get down to the mechanics. The Tokyo Marui will include the following fire settings; Safe, Semi, 3 Round Burst and Full. To support this new exciting 3 round burst feature Tokyo Marui has implemented the use of the EG1000BT motor. At the time of writing Tokyo Marui has not released a date for it’s Type 89 but on the grapevine it is said to be around July, which is really close! The Type 89 will have a recommended retail price of $448; making it the most expensive Tokyo Marui gun to date. However the Type 89 is sure to please. Source: http://www.airsoft-reviews.net |

Repost.
Personally I'm more excited about the 1911 at this point. Even if the AEG is full metal, and has the three round burst, the estimated 400$ USD price tag is a bit rich for my blood. And well, it IS based off the AR-18... Although those mags are pretty cool with the continuing mag follower... But I am surprised they didn't put the folding stock version on it, I imagine that it's not totally necessary but would have been nice.

400$ USD... it ain't that expensive.
we've got airsofters paying $400 + usd on a stock TM then upgrading it. and most of the full metal rifles are around $400 USD. anyways its nice to see the trend of full metal airsoft guns coming into the market. time will tell how well 3-round burst will hold up in the long run. hopefully it will be successful and soon adapted into the new generation airsoft rifles. :salute:

Am I alone in saying that this rifle isn't really that much of a looker?

Maybe not for us, but Im sure its appealing to the Japanese. TM had 3-round burst in the 550-551 series. Now its discontinued. I heard it was crap.

The method they used before is totally different than the new one. I amagine only time will tell how it does. Too bad they didn't get this in time for the MP5 series.... and as we all know, TM is horrible for updating old guns. One release and it's on the shelves for years. |

Er, in addition to being a repost, this thread is also by no means a proper review and doesn't belong in the review section.

Well, I must say that it is nice to see a NEW gun come out. I don't think it looks horrible... It's straightforward, and it's clean.
It's also nice to see a rifle that not covered in rails.
