Opinions on the CA M15-A4 SPC and the CA Steyr Aug (*Time Critical*)

Until just recently my first major airsoft purchase was going to be a M15A4 SPC but after plenty of reviews complaining of weak mechboxes (basically just the weak ver. 2 box design) and finicky hop-up, I decided to check out my other options. With the release of the new CA Aug featuring a ver.3 mechbox (supposedly much better than a ver. 2) and a 509mm inner barrel (since I play in a rather large woodland field) I thought it was a godsend. My question to you is what is your opinions on the CA M15A4, the CA Steyr Aug, the ver. 2 and ver. 3 mechbox's in general. If anyone has the CA Aug I would extremely appreciate a mini-review on the performance and the accuracy of the Aug and specifically the ROF (on a 8.4v 1200mah if you could) Thanks in advance! This is time critical so the faster answers the better! (night game coming up in a week)

There is a review on these forums on the CA AUG 1 already by MuffinMan/Tenneal or whatever his name is now (:P). Search would tell you that.
You're pretty lucky there is too, since it's very new and there aren't that many CA AUGs in Canada.
That being said, it's a great AEG, but you may have to get a local airsmith to take a look at the peice of rubber tube that presses down on the hopup to adjust, when I got mine, this part was out of round, which I fixed with a piece of plastic tube inside it as did Tenneal.

Well if you had cared to read my post I need the performance and accuracy of the CA Aug, that review has neither. I did my homework but found no answers so I'm looking for some help. So basically do I need new hop-up rubber or do I need to modify something?

Well I haven't updated the page in a while.

But since you're so anxious...

Yes, you do require to replace or reinforce the piece that pushes down own the aug's hopup bucking. The one that was stock for both of our augs was rather weak, soft and supple. So you need something a bit more solid and perfectly even and round for the hopup.

To be honest I quite enjoy the AUG, and preformance wise it beats the Armalite M15 series (Just with a higher magazine capacity, near complete ambidexterity, slightly higher stock fps, all in a moderate rifle package). However the downsides are that it's cosmetically somewhat ugly, and the 1.5x scope on top (while it is very nice, crisp and clear) may not be suited for all ages. I personally can't use the scope with my full goggles on, but with lower profile ones I can use the thing. It's up to you, but I'd pick the AUG (mainly because everyone else and their dog has an armalite)

Edit: Sorry, didn't read the start of the post.

CA AUG A2 will NOT fit a larger battery inside the gun, any higher than the standard 8.4v 600/1100 Mah mini battery. It has a hard enough time fitting the battery in there, and I have significant doubts without removing the plastic plate that holds the gearbox in place (not recommended, otherwise the gearbox will fall out of allignment) that a larger battery will fit. Not that there's anything wrong with 1100 mah batteries.

Rate of Fire is adequate, I'd honestly have to say it's on par with standard AEG's, and it is pretty loud. Press the rifle up to your ear and pull the trigger and your ears will ring for a good few seconds.

Unfortunately I am not able to rate the gearbox. Me and Toastmaster are somewhat baffled how the mechbox got in the gun in the first place. Without the battery plate in place, it rocks back a few milimeters then gets stuck on a screw housing.

So am I going to replace the hop up bucking,

or the hop up spacer.

Sorry for all the questions but your posts didn't make it 100% clear as to what I am going to need to replace.

(P.S. I think the Aug is one of the best looking guns out there, I guess to each his own.)

EDIT: What gearbox version is the CA Aug, Airsoft GI says that it is a version 2 but I was under the understanding that the TM one was a ver.3, so which gearbox version is it actually?

Usually a new hopup bucking includes a new hopup spacer as well. My CA36's hopup bucking and spacer weren't all that impressive either, but using my new Guarder black hop set gave me too stiff a hopup, so I'm currently using the CA spacer with the Guarder black bucking. Hasn't has a chance to see how that shoots, though.

You guys have said that only mini type batteries fit in the CA Aug but on their own promotional pamphlet it says that a large battery can be used. I'm confused as to whether this is true or not. Sorry for the giant picture, couldn't find anything smaller.

Nope, sadly I don't know why they said it, but it doesn't fit anything larger than a mini.
Not to mention there's only a mini connector in there. To put a large in you'd need a Large-Mini wiring.

Without the battery plate i'm sure you could fit that modified AUG battery in there, although without the plate in the mechbox moves about whenever you pull the trigger so again that's probably not good.
