semi auto not working - ICS mp5a5
hey there,
first of all sorry for any mistakes i make! well, my original ics gearbox was cracked in the end, i replaced it with a tokyo marui one.. cleaned all the pieces and get it all together, in the start i had a problem with the tappet plate it was stuck because its height was too big so i poolished it with some glasspaper and now it works, then i saw that the switch doesnt fit good so i made some changes in it.. i think the problem comes from the cut-off lever, i checked it out but evry thing seems to be ok... i shimmed the gearbox just fine, it runs auto like hell, but no semi-auto. another problem maybe because the gun fires too fast that its not taking the bullets from the magazine, my magazine is after a great upgrade that i made, before i replaced the gearbox evrything was just fine. |

Check to see if the little spring that supplies the tension to the semi-auto cutoff bar is stll there. Sometimes ICS selector plates will shoot that spring out if the "pin" that holds it in place (on the selector plate) breaks.

Sounds to me like your selector plate is not lining up with your selector lever positions. You do realize that you can generally only use ICS gearboxes in ICS guns. They have just slight differences in some areas that make them incompatible with almost all other brands of parts. I would suggest that you either install an ICS gearbox or try a different (non-ICS) selector plate.

well i checked out the selector plate it seems to be working just fine..
when its in safe, its safe the gun does not fire.. but as soon as i put semi-auto switch it runs auto when i pull the trigger.. i put a very good spring in there so it can move real good the cutoff lever.. |

The only other possible causes would be:
Broken cut-off bar Broken switch (the rail where the cut-off bar rides) Cut-off bar not being engaged by the sector gear Damaged sector gear External selector lever not putting the selector plate in proper position (ruled out?) These are the only things I can think of. You may have to open up the gearbox again.

well i thought about all of this..
and i opened the gearbox today at least 10 times not kidding.. emmm.. about the gear it self.. its okay, and it was okay only when i put the TM gearbox evrything went rong.. the cutoff lever looks very good.. and i tried to move the switch bar it locks the cutoff lever just like it should.. emm and when now i am putting the gun all together even that i have auto only its not shooting all of the bullets only a part of them... and thanks for your help again! |

Remember, most brands of gearboxes don't work in ICS guns and ICS gearboxes don't work in most guns either. Your problem may very well be with the gearbox shell itself.
I suggest you get an ICS gearbox shell. Atleast it's guaranteed to be compatible.

you are totally right..
i am trying fixing this gearbox over 16 houres!! insane.. i was trying to find a cheap replacement for the shell so i bought a tokyo marui one.. the cracked gearbox i have works in the gun and shoots very good the only problem is the because of the cracked some pressure was made on the hopup chamber and some parts was broke over there and i glow them.. do you have an idea for me how can i glow this crack maybe? i live in israel and getting parts in here is a real problem.. and cost a lot of money... |
