UV-5R Alternatives

Does anyone have leads on a good replacement radio for the Baofeng UV-5R?

I wanted another UV-5R for a dual comm setup (my old one was purchased way back in 2015) so I bought a new UV-5R but it is firmware locked to disable transmitting on FRS/GMRS frequencies (2020 FCC model). The chip they use is an encrypted one-time programmable chip so I can't even flash it or hack it if I tried.

Are there any radios comparable to the UV-5R available or are we all going to be stuck running crappy blister pack radios?
