We Mag conversion Closed to Open
Is this worth doing? I have one closed bolt mag that came with the gun, and I need more mags as I only have four open bolt mags currently. Are the kits worth it? I seem to recall reading that they often leak and its not worth the price verus just buying a new mag.
Let me know your experiences with it and if it's worth my time. Thanks. |

Depends on how well you seal the closed bolt mags. The kit itself is quite cheap to convert. If you ask me, it is reasonable to convert it at 1/3 the price of buying a new mag.

I need to post this funny.
I’m 99% sure the mag in question is the one I sealed up. It holds gas pretty well, at least it did when I sealed it. I purchased it as a boneyard mag from bigload

If it's originally a closed bolt then it's the mag with the big long plate on the back.
I had those, they were all sealed well with gasket sealer and would still develop a leak about once a year. I switched them all to the 2 piece versions at least 3 years ago and since then not one leak. So I'd so the math one whole new mag vs. the open bolt kit and the 2 piece reservoir and go from there.
