VSR-10 Questions.

To start things off, im a complete airsoft noob. So questions here might be a bit on the stupid side, so please bear with me when I say I dont know anything about airsoft.

I was looking at the TM VSR-10. Seems like a solid gun. I have read as many reviews as I could find on it and it doesn't seem too bad for its price of $440.

But, apperantly it only gets 290 FPS out of the box. What would I need to do to get it to shoot faster without spending too much money?
Or would 290 FPS be enough? Again, I don't know much about these guns.
Also, if I bought this gun, what maintenance would be required?
I would also want to slap a bipod and a scope on it. What would I need to mount the scope? Can I use any ordinary hunting scope? If I need special mounts or something, can somebody leave a link for that?
Is there a certain bipod I would need? I need a link for that too.

Is this a wise investment? Or should I spend a bit more money and buy something thats ready to rock out of the box with no upgrades needed? If so, could somebody leave me some links for the guns?

I know I should be buying an AEG, I have been reading here and an AEG is probably the best for me to start with. But these bolt action rifles appeal to me alot more.

Please, I know I am a complete noob with this so there is no need to call me one.

Thanks,
Erik

If your a complete newb then its in the best off your interests to NOT start of with a sniper rifle. Save a bit more and get yourself a nice new AEG or find a used one, starting off by sniping in airsoft will ruin the sport from you.

as for tips and stuff, go read the FAQS, theres a wealth of information in there for you...seriously lol im notjust telling u to do blahblah but the FAQ actually works

The VSR line-up is good, nice price and all, but sniping in airsoft is not what you probably imagined it to be...its godamn boring lol I have a gpsec, havnet taken out to a game yet but by plinking at home, I know its gonna be pretty boring :P You need to have lots of patience for sniping.

if you are going to get a vrs-10 be sure to get a g-spec. It is more versitile than the regular vsr-10's. It includes a 20mm rail so you will need to buy appropriate scope rings to fit your scope on it. As for the speed 290fps isnt bad, i dont think you really need to upgrade it. I am pretty sure this it is a low maintenance gun. I would not recomend a bi-pod as they are expensive and you probably wont use it. Anyways I think this is a pretty good choice for a first gun. I believe tru has a g-spec instock too

So the gun I posted isnt a G-Spec? Hrm could you link me to one?

I know I'm gonna need patience. Dont worry, im a hunter. Ive sat many hours without seeing a damned thing.

Now if the gun I posted isnt a g-spec, what will I need to mount a scope?

I'm looking at the same gun. Agreed that the price and quality seems just fine.

But, apperantly it only gets 290 FPS out of the box. What would I need to do to get it to shoot faster without spending too much money?

A spring kit, look those up and choose all the parts needed to match a speed you want. I recommend gaming for several months first.

Or would 290 FPS be enough? Again, I don't know much about these guns.

Same as any airsoft; careful cleaning of the barrel once in a while, and oiling with just a little bit of silicone oil. Check the Information section.

I would also want to slap a bipod and a scope on it. What would I need to mount the scope? Can I use any ordinary hunting scope? If I need special mounts or something, can somebody leave a link for that?

If you buy the model with scope rails, any standard hunting scope will fit. Bipods and scopes are a matter of preference, there's a few threads on the subject. Remember that airsoft dont get the range at which a scope becomes useful for aiming, there's also parallax errors.

Is this a wise investment? Or should I spend a bit more money and buy something thats ready to rock out of the box with no upgrades needed? If so, could somebody leave me some links for the guns?

I think it's a fair gun, but you may also look up the APS2 or the L96 from Maruzen. Check the retailers. The other guns are far more expensive.

I know I should be buying an AEG, I have been reading here and an AEG is probably the best for me to start with. But these bolt action rifles appeal to me alot more.

Your choice. Most AEG will out-range you and certainly bury you under tons of BB before you can take a second shot. Some folks do very well with bolt guns as their first guns, but there are good reasons why it's not recommended.

Thanks for the quick responses.

I have been looking on 007 Airsoft and would the APS need a rail to mount a scope? Or does it come with one?
Out of the 2 models for $550, which would be the best?

OMG....What happened to the Grey-Bot?

FYI, there's a HFC version (Chinese copy) of the VSR-10 coming out shortly that is apparently upgraded right from the factory and has almost 100% parts compatibilty with the TM version (as I've read, only the mags and the placement of the hopup adjustment are different). It's also a bit cheaper than the TM.

The thread on the HFC VSR-11 is here:

There's a link to a review of it here:

Hey eric, welcome to ASC.

check this thread out... for more vsr info.

http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=6240

I have the same gun, that one there's a pro-sniper version, most people here have the Gspec which comes with a scope mount a new cocking handle and a silencer though the barrel is shorter (which will decrease your range and a little fps) You might wanna check that one out too.

If you want a scope, for this version you need to get a scope mount, a little rail thing that goes where your current iron sights are. Bipods are generally pretty compatable but for the VSR I wouldn't recommend one. The thing is so light anyway you're better off without it since you wont get tired holding it up anyways. Bi-pods tend to snag on stuff and will put considerable weight at the front of your gun which makes it difficult to aim standing up or crouching. Play around with the actual gun and then decide what to put on.

I think the VSR is probabaly the best choice for a starter sniper kit. Its simple, reliable and upgrades are pretty friendly, and slightly cheaper than the other rifles. If you check out the other rifles a good lot of them have finicky things that as a beginner you don't really want to deal with.

I don't think any Airsoft sniper rifle out of the box is really ready to go. I'd set aside around 200 bucks for upgrades to get it accurate and powerful enough to outrange AEGs. mind you even then you won't really outrange them by that much. A lot of people think sniper rifles have a lot more range than AEGs which simply isn't true. It certainly takes a different mentality to play as an airsoft sniper. Oh, set aside some more money for sniper bbs too. many people overlook them and just go with regular AEG bb's which will do you no good.

If I were you' i'd pop by the international retailer sites like UNcompany, WGC shop and dentrinity and price some upgrade parts before you decide on a rifle because I assure you you'll be lookin at upgrades down the road.

AH ok thanks for your review.
So go with the VSR-10 Pro? With no bi-pod and a scope?

It's the same design as the UHC Super-Duper 9, which in and of itself is a total piece of shit. The Tactical 9 is a peice of shit with scope + rail, bipod, now with freshly-reinforced shitty internals.

So are the reviews right, do both versions of the VSR-10 come with silencers?
