Another reason to upgrade to stronger frames

Bought a TM G17 with a tinted lower since it was on sale for $180. This was great since I would have upgraded to a Guarder G17 frame right away anyways. I already saved about $100, and I got the frame used for $40.

Test fired 1 mag - literally less than 30 rounds, then put it away until I got my Guarder frame installed.

After installation I noticed that the front post had already sheared off. Not sure what other problems it could cause, so it's good that I put in the new frame right away.

Anyone else have similar problems? I understand the tinted frame might be weaker than their solid black frames.

Dual problem here;
Tinted plastic frames tend to be more rigid and thereby more brittle, based on the type of plastic used.
TMs are only meant to be run (stock) on duster. If you were using propane, you were pushing the gun way beyond what it wanted to do.
One mag-ish seems very low, but not inconceivable.

Really wish sales people would be the first line and tell people NOT TO RUN PROPANE in stock TM platforms.

Most TM guns can run propane without issue. Glocks, 5-7s etc cannot.

The main problem here is TM usually uses ABS plastic, which is softer and more malleable. Tinted parts are usually polycarbonate, which is a horrible plastic to use because it is very hard but extremely brittle.

The tinted frames are definitely way too brittle. Within a few mags of duster (and lots of no-gas dry fire), my front post cracked too. They're only good as place holders or last resort backup.

The internals seem handle propane just fine. It's the frame and slide that will break eventually. The main reason I got the Guarder frame was to get rid of the ugly tinted one.

Things break eventually from time to time, also depends on the preferences for the end user. I have my Marui 4.3 for plactical shooting and plank at home for 7 years, using propane only, finally got trigger response issues and found out the end of the slide had a vertical Crack and the slide pop up a bit causing problems. This pistol was metal mid flame and original plastic slide, only I did was changing the hammer set and trigger set, also high flow value for mag.

The Japanese design is for 134 (75-80psi)but still able to handle propane(115psi). What you'll get is shorten the life use.

When engage firing, gas is being releasing and flow through nozzle to push bb out from chamber and blow back the slide. The main impact are front and back horizontal, but don't miss out the vertical impact that creates between mag valve and nozzle. This impact also put pressure on the rails of slide and mid flame. That's how it got wear out faster and create problems, and that's how my 4.3 plastic slide got broken. Lubricant the contact could lengthen the life and minimize wear no matter is plastic or metal. After I learned and understand this situation and realized what would I expect the life of each. And that's also giving me a guide line to see if I would like to have it up grade or modify or not!

Re polycarbonate vs. other materials? Pretty sure the eye pro you're running is a clear poly carbonate lens. How do you feel about that?

I've run all my TM guns on propane from new. The only pistols I run on duster are some early 90s classics that just get plinked.

Well I heard a cheap fix for the problem is to get a longer screw, and JB Weld it in place.

I did the same order except I didn't even fire it. It was "tested" prior to shipment arrival. The post literally crumbled as I took the gun apart. I had a Guarder to replace it so no matter but seeing it turn to dust was interesting.

Have a stock TM p226 been using propane.on it for years with no issues. But hey what do I know I've only been running TM pistols since TRU brought them into the country lol

I've always run TM pistols and always run propane/green gas. Never had an issue. So far in ten years that's a TM Sig P226, two TM FN 5/7's and two TM Beretta PX4 Storm's. I never ran the clear/smoked versions and almost never put an upgrade part in them.
