New to snipers
I am picking up a FN Herstal Licensed SPR A5M Sniper Rifle (http://www.evike.com/products/49978/)
And I want to upgrade it, I have read angle custom isnt the best. Action army is much better. But can I get some advise in where to start. |

Don't upgrade it, it's not worth it. It's a cheap rifle that will most likely break really fast. Also, there's no way to tell if that thing is compatible with any upgrade parts. It looks like a VSR type rifle, but Cybergun has put really crappy VSR-like clones on the market before that were absolutely not compatible with anything. Stay far away from it.

Well if you want a VSR10 clone, best one is the JG Bar-10 other than a real TM VSR10.
Or if you like that FN sniper rifle, then look at this VFC M40A3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhhM...ion_2150808299 You can upgrade it with TM L96 internals. Last edited by SuperHog; July 27th, 2015 at 22:07.. |

Someday I'll have more money than I know what to do with, and likely end up picking up a TM VSR to put a grand into. I'll paint it, take it out into the pasture to try it out to rationalize me spending so much money on it. Might game it a couple times, but probably no more than once a year.
Ryan, if you're new to this game, I'd strongly recommend against a sniper rifle, unless you enjoy the spending $1300 on a rifle which won't by it self outgun a entry level aeg, or crawling through the woods for 45 minutes to take a shot that has a good chance of bouncing off of your target without the individual calling his hit, whether he noticed it or not (and remember that you can't tell someone to call his or her hits when your in a hide, at least without giving away your position). If you've considered this, go big or go home. Get off to a good start with a TM base, one that you know will be compatible with all the quality parts you plan to throw into it |

+1 don't get it
There was a video of an upgraded one... even upgraded (probably 2-3x the price of the rifle in upgrades) it was just barely usable. Like "I can do that with a decent quality stock AEG" -grade usable.

Step 1) Start calling it a sniper rifle. A "sniper" is a person who shoots snipes, not a gun. You sound like an idiot when you refer to a half ton truck as a "driver".
Step 2) Make good and damn sure any rifle you buy is compatible with aftermarket parts. Angel custom and action army are the motomaster of aftermarket parts. You want PDI or Laylax. And if you think PDI and Laylax parts are too expensive, then don't buy a sniper rifle. |

^that^
TM (or at the very least JG/Echo1) Then your viable choices are VSR10, APS2 system, L96 those 3 types of rifles have the most after market support, and you will need it, aside from some trigger parts and perhaps the cylinder head and or cylinder you will replace all the internals from hop up chamber to sears and piston to spring guide, inner barrel etc.. be prepared to spend 800-1000 to buy and build a gameable rifle (also be prepared to get your certification, in these days of r hops and such you will need the ability to run heavier rounds to push your ranges further so you will need at least your level 2, for 500fps) If I were to suggest a built it would be. TM VSR10 laylax pss10 parts below hop chamber (cut a hop nub to fit between the tabs on the hop arm) Teflon cylinder cylinder head piston end of laylax parts build your own or buy barrel spacers deep fire stainless steel sears good inner barrel 455mm, (you will need a silencer adapter on a VSR10 to hide a few mm of barrel.) Fill the stock with foam or something. Buy a good optic, build a ghillie suit. Sort your kit out for easy use while prone. then spend an hour or so getting into position and hear the end of game horn go, or get into a nice spot and shoot 3 guys who don't call their hits, or spend hour crawling through the swamp in 30 degree heat to provide over watch on an advance only to have the advance pushed back before it even starts. It's heaps of fun, if you are the right type of person. Got what it takes? Wanna find out? Just run an aeg but play like a sniper, ghillie, no ghillie it doesn't matter. Hang back at the start, flank wide around the guys, post up in a good spot and wait, just wait, take targets of opertunity or high value see how that kind of play strikes you, you enjoy it then go and dump funds into a bolt action, trust me I started sniping with an aeg and was suggested a bolt action based on my play style, I proved to be effective with a stock crappy gifted bolt action and started dumping funds into it. After it was built I dumped funds into a good base (a TM vsr 10 to replace my crappy tsd so 700, a well mb02 rebrand) the tsd performed nothing like the TM does. I am a sniper, in part, because I have have the ability to sit or lay or crouch for long periods of time and not shoot people withy 1200 dollar rifle, shooting has very little to do with it, however when you need to shoot you need to be able to consistently hit your target, this is why one must spend a lot on upgrades, and this is not biased to the velocity you are limited too. My VSR10 is quite effective when running a ~300fps spring because the bb goes where you want almost every shot, in fact at low velocities it can be more effective (Beter engagement ranges and such) Just some food for thought from someone who runs a bolt action regularly. Lol

Good platform to start with? KJW M700 Police NOT THE TAKEDOWN VERSION.
You can get a BW1200 (branded KJW M700) in Canada. |

VSR platform: A real TM VSR10, or a JG BAR10 if you really can't find a TM. Best upgrade platform bar none.
L96 platform: A Real TM L96, Wells are hit or miss, but I've seen a couple good ones on the field. You could try your luck. Get the one where the magazine is in the right place like a TM. The others are Maruzen clones, they are okayish, but the TM-clone system is better. M24: there's lots of upgrades for the Snow Wolf M24, might be a good cheap platform from what I've read, but I have no hands on experience with them. Classic Army M24 used to be prized, but nowadays it doesn't make sense to invest in the platform considering the magazine problems. SVD: while not technically a bolt action rifle, A&K makes a spring powered Dragunov SVD. Lots of upgrades from airsoftpro.cz. Not as accurate as a TM VSR or TM L96 platform, but cheap to get and upgrade.

I bought a Tokyo Marui L96, fully upgraded it with top end PDI and Laylax parts, also had some custom ones machined, custom paint job, scope with custom rings and flash hood, custom bipod adapter and bipod, double polished heavy weight sniper rounds of varying weights, Firefly buckings, etc, etc. My M4 still raped it and left it for dead. I've heard of a few Classic Army M24 that have had good success. Also the old APS-2 system like in the Maruzen L96 is good, but parts and upgrade parts are starting to become scarce. Best of the best in my opinion; is the Tokyo Marui VSR G-Spec. I've seen more than one become excellent with a full compliment of top grade parts and some very careful work with the hop-up. I have seen a few VSR clones, such as the JG BAR10 fully upgraded that were....meh, adequate I guess. No clones have come close to the real deal. They may work, but not as well. Also, unless your sniper rifle is super to notch, every second AEG on the field will embarrass you and take the fun out of it. Spring rifles can be upgraded to be near silent as well, but many players don't call unknown hits. They don't hear a gun, so they just look around bewildered, shrug their shoulders and continue playing. Must've been a branch they'll think. On top of all that, you have to be able to shoot it. Missing in airsoft is common, especially at range. Pull the bolt, load the next round, fire and miss, repeat process. Do it right step by step: - But the TMVSR - Full upgrade parts from PDI, Laylax, etc - Send it to a tech to have it done properly - Make it silent or else each miss will mean getting raped by BBs (and you'll mostly miss, especially at the start) - Have trouble moving without getting shot - Sit in one spot and get no kills - Get bored - Use it in a skirmish from the perfect position and realize you can't shoot - Sell it at a significant loss when you realize what 99 out of 100 would be airsoft snipers learn the hard way - Step whatever: Profit /\ Usually that's best case scenario...

Lol, I wouldn't say it's that bad lol. What velocity you guys run in BC? If everyone is running 450fps r hoped guns then we'll tuned bolt action running 500 isn't going to really have any range advantage. Consistency may be a little beter but the whole advantage will be silence (near at least) and your ability to evade the enemy and conceal yourself. Skirmish sniping is way different than milsim. In milsim it's a lot more like real sniping, recon, I'd targets, direct troops around payroll routes and such provide over watch for assault teams and such.
skirmish sniping (for me at least) works two ways. 1. You hang back (or even fall back further) at the start and peg targets of opertunity from out of their effective range 2. Bound wide along the border of the play area, sneak in from the back pegging off guys who are too busy covering their front, post up with an over watch of their spawn area, let guys spawn and move out to cover then pop em and relocate, rinse repeat, shoot, relocate, shoot relocate, the relocating is the job, shooting is easy, you alrdy know they are gonna swarm your last know position so when you relocate you over watch you last FP. Getting pinched on the move is the biggest danger. Range has nothing to do with it in this style. In fact a low velocity rifle is best as you can engage much closer and quieter, can reload faster and with less movement etc.. consistency is where it's at at for this style. 2 shots 1 kill MAX and if he hears/sees the first shot yer pretty screwed and had better watch and wait until he's brushed it off, or you better have some backup to defend you when he comes a lookin lol.

The range advantage comes from BB weight.
A ptw shooting 1.6j using .30s can do 300ft But you guys kinda take 300ft as the end all be all I've actually seen bolt actions shooting 400ft with heavier ammo, the issue is whether or not you can hit someone at that range, but in BC forest with limited wind, I'd say it's a pretty good idea. |
