Neat idea, to bad none of the major makers have thought of an airsoft RPD as of yet

They probably have, but the demand probably just isn't there. If you petition a company like LCT, Real Sword or G&G with enough signatures, I'm sure they'd run off a few units in a limited run if there's profit to be had.

A&K might be a good company to contact too since they're the only ones who've built the PKM as of yet.

One of the big problems about marketing an RPD though is the size and lack of historical relivance. It's a longer gun, so it would be a bit cumbersome on the field, and aside from a few, somewhat obscure confrontations, it's kind of an LMG that got lost to history. I'm no authority, but I've read that it was only issued to the Soviet military for a short period of time and they never deployed it themselves, just sold it off for proxy wars like Korea, Vietnam, etc. The RPK replaced it pretty quickly and was more pratical too because it was cheaper to build being based off the "AKM" platform, so the RPD stopped being produced and just sort of faded into the background and into far off hands and regional conflicts.

I think RPD has it's niche in the history of war. RPD can be used in tons of impressions between 50's and now. Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, Yugoslavia etc. It's still extensively used in he Middle East and now in Ukraine. One can even build tactikool weapon platform out of it I'm sure that many people would be interested in having this unique looking gun if there was one on the market.
