Dytac SMR 416 10.5" & 14.5"
I wasn't sure whether to post this under the review section because its more of a small warning & what gives Dytac?
Its public knowledge by now that Dytac really shit the bed when it came to this RIS unit for the 416 but in their defence they did say it was for the newgen VFC's only - Dytac even went as far calling customers 'idiots' on their facebook page when questioning all the different mods needed to be done not just to your existing barrel nut - even on VFCs. After a quick question to Stealth and a recent post by Dytac led me to think that the fitment on my VFC models really weren't that far off. I ordered the 10.5" Black model from Stealth shortly there after. Despite all the sanding/cutting that needed to be done to the sling loops and under portion - it slipped nicely without issue over my existing Umarex barrel nut - no issues. I started getting curious about the 14.5" DE model and asked Stealth over at airsoftstore if he'd be getting it in any time soon - didn't look like it so it pained me to go else where but I did. Fitment over the gas block was great - I hit the barrel nut and let out a very loud enunciated FUCK. There was no way it was going to make it over the barrel nut. Dytac obviously didn't spec this newer DE rail the same way as their Black - what the fuck. After a bit of time and effort I sanded the inner circumference of the rail because it didn't seem like it was off by much..upon slipping this thing on I hit a rough spot and decided to take a +5 Strength Elixir and power house it on..after a few pulls and thrusts I couldn't understand why I was slipping..I looked down and my hand was dripping blood where I was gripping..Seems the port finishing ALL OVER this RIS unit is sharp as a razor blade so I was constantly slicing into my fingers with every re-grip and pull. See pics - the weird red blob out line shows you the ports all over this thing on every side that are razor sharp. It is to be noted! The 10.5" DOES NOT have this razor blade finishing AT ALL. I still haven't got the 14.5" to fit yet as my dremel only takes me so far into the RIS. Last edited by Rabbit; May 2nd, 2014 at 14:09.. |

I was hesitant about getting the sand rails because they were supposed to be released at the same time as the black ones but were recalled for "additional QC" regarding the colour of the anodizing. I guess they had the sand rails made elsewhere?
I have mixed feelings about the Dytac Geissele rails. On one hand, it's the only choice if you want that particular look, but on the other hand, I can see how the non-drop-in fit would be bothersome. I've cut my teeth performing unorthodox mods to get RS rails to fit on airsoft guns, so I don't have much of an issue getting my hands dirty. At the risk of sounding like a douche, "if you want that look, man the F up and put in some work" I think Dytac was fairly upfront about the fitment of the rail with the packaging clearly stating for Umarex/VFC HK416 - albeit there was some ambiguity regarding the different barrel nut diameters between the 2 generations of VFC HK416. This is not directed at you Rabbit, but I'm not sure what the expectation was regarding fitment if the barrel nut diameter differs from the various makes of the HK416 (FCC, WE, VFC Gen 1 and Gen 2, Marui DEVGRU, etc.). It's like getting a Madbull PWS SRX which is made for the VFC SCAR-L then trying to get it on a DBoys SCAR and saying the fitment is crap. Hell, even Madbull fucked that one up and despite saying it fits WE SCAR-L, it doesn't fit. Zach The Ripper can chime in on this. No airsoft rail manufacturer is totally immune from this, it's just what happens when you try to match one part (in this case, the rail) to a shifting specification (receiver specs) Generally speaking, fitment on the Geissele rails is so tricky that, a Real-steel SMR for HK416 does not fit the FCC HK416 (which apparently is supposed to be the most realistic HK416 replica), but it goes on the VFC HK416 just fine. What's up with that? The lack of chamfering on the ports is concerning though - looks like we ultimately aren't going to get the sand rails in. Last edited by Stealth; May 2nd, 2014 at 13:47.. |

^Yup. Took me a solid three hours with a dremel tool and required me to not only dremel the SRX, but some areas of my WE SCAR as well. Beautifully made RIS and now its on there solid; just wasn't born for a WE even though the manufacturer and retailers state it as being compatible.
Truth is, there are a ton of rail systems out there designed for use with multiple brands, however different generations of those models can be subject to different specs, not to mention the spec variance between brands. Whenever I purchase a new piece for a rifle I make sure to set aside a sizeable chunk of time to install as I seldom have anything that "fits like a glove". Sometimes it takes a simple stroke of the dremel, others it takes a couple hours and a bit head or two.

Looks better and has screw inserts, but will it fit? LOL

Hopefully will have better QC and finish than DyTac...
My DyTac 14.5 had one slanted cut at the front and the rear bulge was not centered. It would have driven me mad if I couldn't cover up the machining errors with a front sight and a red dot... Other than that the DyTac rail seems pretty decent. Rail segments are narrower than other rails I've used, AFG's don't fit. |

So trying my hand at this now. Mostly finding that the soft metal of the rail is just sticking to my dremel heads...
Apparently the TM 416 barrel nut was too large for this rail too. Anyone know if the version that dytac came out with specifically for that gun might fit on an FCC 416?

Very interesting. They declared a full and complete copy.
I have original Geiselle 10,5 rail on my MR556A1. I measured this rail and barrel nut. Could you please do the same measures with your Dytac? Last edited by Lintar; November 29th, 2014 at 16:38.. |
