LCT AK stock choice
I'd like to get an AK to add to my collection, something sort of PMC flavour. Research tells me that LCT is a solid brand but I can't decide on stock type.
I think the underfolder below is sexy, but have heard mixed reviews about the stock, and the underfolding stock type in general. I know underfolder means no rearward mounted rail + optics, but at least there is railestate on the handguard. Maybe I'd be better off going side folding stock? If anyone has handled both types and has any input, would be appreciated. I would love to buy both, but there are lots of other things to buy - can only get one! |

I've owned their AKMSU and the under folding stock is super solid, probably the most solid under folder I've ever owned, and I've had every brand AK except real sword.
That said, the rails on the handguard and gas block should be more than enough real estate for mounting whatever you want. When it comes to sidefolders, the AIMS is my favourite as it folds to the right and is more comfortable to shoot folded than the AKS74 skeleton stocks, at least for me as a right hander. It's also more comfy when it's slung and folded. Of the 2 you posted, I would go with the side folder

I've handled both in person at a store (they were wood versions though but same basic metal stock idea). My preference is actually either or. Both are very solid. Forgive me, I'm not really an AK guy so I don't remember what models I handled but you can't go wrong with either however I do have a slight leaning towards the side folder. You can also do that cool thing like in Americas Army (2.x on a level like SF Hospital) where you swing the side folder out and it locks into place, it's solid enough of a construction that I wouldn't hesitate doing that.

I've got Pusanangi's former under-folder AKMSU, and i'll confirm that the LCT under-folder stock is pretty solid, for what it is - positive lock, very rigid and very minimal play - but it is a next to new rifle also. However, with enough use and abuse, i could see play developing with usage wear and tear. All that given - the real steel version under-folder will also loosen up and get a bit sloppy with use - just the nature of the design, IMHO!
Can't go wrong with LCT, regardless. |
