1982 Pattern Webbing
Has anyone been able to get their hands on some 1982 Pattern webbing?
I also have an AK so I'll need some magazine pouches that are compatible with AK mags and fit on the webbing. I have the combats uniform that Canadian soldiers wore before CADPAT. I'm looking to complete the set with that webbing. |

You might be able to get away with using old C2 mag pouches for the 82 pattern webbing.
They were originally designed to hold 30rd straight 7.62 NAtO mags for the FN H barrel ( C2) but you might be able to cram 1 AK mag in there and still be able to close the mag pouch. The alternative would be to use the 64 pattern Bra which held the same type of mag. That one definitively works for mags of the RS Type 56.

Is this the one you're talking about? I'll have to check with my local army surplus store if they have it in stock. Although this one looks like it was for straight mags instead of the slightly bent AK mags, I hope I'll be able to close the lid part to cover my magazine until its needed. Unforunately my army surplus store usually ask outrageous prices for their items which kinda defeats the purpose of "surplus" haha. (I go to the AAA Army Surplus store in Kensington market in Toronto for anyone who is familiar. Don't buy from them unless as a last resort!!) |

It never used to be snug!
The other fix is a couple Bren pouches if you can't find the C2 ones.

Are you able to close the top over the magazine? Also are Bren pouches better or worse than the C2 pouch?

I used the bren pouches when I first started and they work very well for AK mags. I think they can hold three in each pouch. In fact I still use them as dump pouches today

One of the guys I shoot with had a Flecktern vest that had AK pouches for sale and thats what I use know for those mags. If I am running light or it's real hot I have the Bren pouches just on a belt. They are great as a back up and will hold just about any mag I have. I've used them for the AK's, M4, Sten, even ICS M1 mags. I agree with Gato even after you get something else keep them as spares.

I have the 82 pat sets in stock new for $60 and we'll add in some new c7 mag pouches. Also have the BRA kicking around here too. Depending on your mobility you can drive GO train or Bus it out to my shop. Also have the after 82 pat befor the CF CP Tact vest Engineer Vests in for $50. So we can cover the CF requirements. The AK stuff you can fit AK molle Pouches over the CF Belt and/or jerry rig it onto another piece of Kit. Hey we can even tie the BRA around your leg for the Retro Tacti-cool look! Cheers |

I run the 82 for my AKM the mags are abit long but two can fit nicely in the pouches that come with the webbing. (So four total) If you work them abit you can even close the top onto them.(I leave them open so its quicker to get to them) Never had one fall out yet.
