Techseller in Asc is the retailer, canadian business

Puxing-777 and Wouxun kg-689/uvd1p seems to be the most common

As for headset, that's a completely different story; tons of thread on the matter though

Edited: In Bold; My mistake, I wrote 639 but meant 689.

Wouxun kg-uv3d $120.00 plus shipping from the states

Wouxun kg-uvd1p $110.00 free shipping from hong kong

Puxing-777 is good too and the programming software seems to work for both.

Throat mic or headset will depend on how much quality you're willing to pay for

Techseller...northtrailsports.com
He's out your way (I think...or at least he used to be)...you might be able to drop in the store and pick it all up.

Basically the Puxing/Wuxing...and many of the *xing clones are all the same radio. There's minor chip differences but they're all essentially clones of a Kenwood radio.

The Puxing 888 is a dual channel...the 777 is a single channel. The dual channel is convenient since you can hear two channels at once and speak on one of them. Handy for listening to Game Control and still Rx/Tx on your team channel.

The range is pretty decent...but if you're running close to others you'll want to power down to low power. The stock antenna is ok...the longer whip antenna does help a bit in really bad spots. The stock battery is fine for all day if there's not much radio chatter...a second battery is a good idea for long/more complicated stuff. There's an extended battery (twice the capacity I think) that is fine for all day or pretty much all weekend depending on radio usage....especially in low power mode.

Programming can be done off the keypad...it's very straightforward once you get the hang of it. The frequently used radio frequencies are posted up.

There's lots of different headsets/mic setups...so far as I know all the *xing radios use 2 pin Kenwood stuff, which is readily available.

Personally...I like the simplicity of a simple hand mic. They're usually built tough, stupid simple to use and the wiring is kept to a minimum. Many have a 3.5mm headphone jack on them so you can run one of those clear coil tube ear buds.

I have 2 Wouxun kg-uvd1p and they survived 2 tours at claybank one year it rained so much (all day) both days mud, sliding down clay hills, ground in muck and clay, very sturdy dual band radios.. Dual band is not needed most people stick to UHF band... the accessories are Kenwood standard (2 pin)

if you are looking for a bit cheaper (in price) radio - Quality is still super high and it takes all the standard Motorola accessories (2 pin) the FDC 460A is a really good radio as well... it is UHF only but that is fine for Airsoft...

Heads up -> I edited my original post. Wrote wrong model number (639, meant 689)

I just got a wouxun UV3D only to realize to my dismay that its max transmit range is 450, and since all the radios everyone around seems to prefer operate on frequencies above 460, this particular radio is quite useless.

Well, either you could ask the retailer (assuming you purchased from a retailer) for an exchange and pay whatever difference there is, or you could throw it up on the B&S and use what you get for it on a new radio.

You can get the programming cable and unlock the radio to input the frequency range needed.

UVD1P is dual channel
dual band (UHF and VHF)
has programming software which makes it easy to clone radios (came in handy at claybank)
More than 24hr battery life (was low at the end of first day claybank, forgot to turn it off, still on the next day)
And is waterproof.
