Dollar store safey glasses? seems legit

lol humour me and read this before your instincts tell you to flame lol

so Im in dollarama, and I notice they started selling $3 items now, and one of those is these safety glasses.

I pick them up notice they say ansi and msa cert. On the glasses they are inscribed as well with ANSI Z87.1-2010.

I take them home, try them on, and yeah they feel great. They are very lightly tinted. I decide to shoot them up. Use .25 bbs from 2inches away and 5 feet away, about 20 shots, and what do you know? They held up flawlessly.

I decided while writing this to check on the msa safety works website, because these glasses do have a part number on the package, and sure enough here they are

***edit***
heres a video of me unloading about 90 .25 bbs on the glasses ... my sig is shooting 400fps with .20 currently

not bad for $3 ...

my thing is its legit ansi cert... so its going to be safe...

personally, Im more of a goggles kind of guy. But honestly, safety glasses are not expensive, you can by ballistic shooting glasses for $10 already, maybe it was a matter of time before they ended up at the dollarstore.

Also, this is 1000 times better to use than any of the Chinese knock off crap out there that people risk using

I was using a co2 cybergun pistol which I think shoots around 350 fps, maybe I'll unload a mag from a rifle on them later...

Regardless of the ansi rating, they're still not full seal. That's the only way you can truly protect your eyes from a shot. Glasses still have gaps where a bb could penetrate and damage your eye.
Add to that, that insured fields require full seal eye protection, and you have another pair of sunglasses :P

As long as they look good and keep your eyes safe, whatever. They have to look good though.

For private fields where ballistics are OK this is actually awesome. I would probably trust this more than the ACM "safty glas for survive wargam" stuff coming from China (even though those safety glasses likely come from China but at least the ANSI cert seems legit).

Well personally, I wouldn't use them in a game. I would only use them as just for normal jobs and not to be shot at. I might grab a pair for when working on guns. Which dollar store did you get it from?

Dollarama ... i have a couple of pairs of ballistics glasses, i dont wear them because of the lack of full seal and thats by choice as i play at some places that allow them. However, with that said, the gaps are very minimal. More so than my windchesters, I am tempted to game them.

I wear the ESS Crossbows, feel pretty safe in them. They're great glasses check them out http://www.esseyepro.com/Crossbow-2X...html#_overview

The only time I'd wear full seal is for CQB, where you can get shot from literally all angles.

As for the Dollarama glasses... Well they say ANSI certified, shoot a pair to shit and see if they hold up. If so you're probably good to go (with some anti fog lol)

There's always Wilex X SG-1s as a full seal option for those who want the sunglasses-look. You can also remove the straps and attach temples to use them as shooting glasses too.

The quality of these mass produced chinese items isn't so much of an issue as the quality control present. One pair may work fine, the next might shatter like glass. Then there's the angle of impact to take into a consideration, a 90-degree hit may very well go right through.

Dollarama has also been known to sell counterfeit items that look identical to their legitimate counterparts, including patents/ratings on the packaging. I wouldn't recommend buying anything from there for anything concerning safety.

Eye wear & foot wear are 2 things you should not cheap out on. I know I'll never run anything but full seal goggles or a pb mask. Don't care if I don't look "cool" wearing them compared to safety glasses... My safety goggles hold up to a .177 pellet going +500fps. It goes through 1/4" plywood like a bb through paper but stops dead & mushrooms against the goggle lense.

This. Its not the cost of the product that is the issue but that they could be repros. Hell even some legit retails end up selling repros without knowing. I would avoid using these to game with, after all you only have two eyes ever!

hey hey relax, read the thread, Ive already stated im a goggles type of guy.

The questions now are,

are these actual ansi cert glasses? or are these repros? knock offs?
is dollarama reputable enough to sell legitimate safety glasses?

my thing is this, say these are knock offs, I lose an eye, is dollarama liable?

Personally I dont think these are knock offs... I just finished unloading a full mag (90-100 ish bbs) on these things, my sig is shooting 400fps right now. In this video I was using .25 bastards ... and the glasses held up flawlessly
