Classic Army AKs
How are Classic Army AKs? I'm having trouble finding reviews of the compact versions, although there are tons of the full sized AKs. I'm looking specifically at the AKS-74U, or "SLR-105U" as CA calls it. It doesn't look much of a step up from the clone 74Us?
From what I've found, it seems that the battery compartment is small, and aftermarket mags can be hit or miss with CA AK receivers. Other thoughts?

I have to completely disagree with the above.
CA AK's are very solid buys. The build quality is very good, especially if you go with one with a steel receiver. I own a CA SLR-105 (steel/wood), and it's the only electric gun I kept when I converted over to gas guns last season. Very reliable mechbox (other than the piston, change it out), aftermarket mags are usually just a matter of filing a small plastic part to fit on the mags, although G&P mags work great out of the box. |

Battery space is very limited, doesn't fit in the handguards only in the upper receiver. The steel is very nice, I've had mine for a year now but changed the awful internals. TM piston ARS Piston head / cylinder head Simple Mosfet M100 spring For mags, cyma AK74 black mags are excellent. No feeding issues, and no mods like the awful MAG brand AK mags that people love so much. |

Cooney, is yours the 74U version? How is the quality of the folding stock? The steel body certainly sounds attractive. I have no idea what the clones are made of, but I'd assume they'd advertise it if it was made of steel.

I've fell on it a couple times, I unfold the stock very violently. I still rather get the VFC, MORE BaTTERY SPACEEE! I can fit 11.1 lipo stick 1000mah with a mosfet.

I can vouch that ca guns in general don't have the greatest internals. but the bodies alone are usually worth it if you don't mind slapping in new parts. Just stay away from their sportline models and you'll have yourself an on par airsoft gun.

The other thing I was looking at was a CA SVD. And before anyone says it, yes, I know the Real Sword is practically the real deal with an AEG crammed into it. But CAs are worth less than half of a Real Sword, and I want to weather the gun, especially to get rid of that nasty blond wood look. I don't exactly want to ghetto up a 1.3K Real Sword. I was looking at a short CA AK because I don't know the first thing about rifle marksmanship. I guess I have a craving for a Russian rifle.
Edit: I guess I'd beat up whatever AK it is, too.

^^ Why dont you import the RS SVD yourself? All Real Sword guns come with a paper in wich the manufacturers certificate at what speed the gun shoots. Importation should be fairly simple.

As for the CA AKS-74u, if you can get the VFC or LCT AKS-74u get it. Having a optic plate is a plus. Adjustable front sight on the VFC is a +. |

Just taking a look at the S&T SVD now. Costs less with scope, mount and covers than a standard CA SVD does. Sounds like it has feeding issues, though, so it'll have to be worked on.

I have CA SLR 105 with wood and so far its has been awesome. I tuned it down to 350fps for indoor, and never had any issues for over a year now.
+1 for RS SVD, I imported it myself, 800$ish after everything. . S&T mags fit RS SVD just fine by the way (haven't fired a lot though to see if they feed properly) |
