Beginner here

I have played Paintball for 2 years now and I recenlty bought a clear mini mp5 airsoft gun. We play in our back yards and not on the street so that we do not hit any one. We all wear goggles. I would like to really get into this sport but im only 15 years old. so my questions are

What would be a good gun
what type of combat gear and protective gera should I buy?
were can I play (I live in central alberta)

any other information that would help would be good thanks guys

Hey, would you happen to live in red deer alberta?...like 3 houses away from me? I saw a couple kids playing airsoft with those clear guns in there back yard a few weeks back.

You're definitely going to get flamed.

Heres some key points:
-Nobody likes soft air guns (and most don't appreciate you calling those clear pieces of crap "airsoft")
-People don't like when you bring up paintball and associate it any any way/form with airsoft
-If you DO get an airsoft rifle and you play with it in your backyard... hmm... Lets just say if you shoot anyone with a half decent AEG from less than 20ft, they will get a BB stuck in themselves and they will bleed. Neighbors may also become annoyed if they catch you playing with softair(or airsoft) equipment in your backyard. You are supposed to play on a good amount of land(that is privately owned of course).
To answer your questions:
-A good gun is whatever you think looks good. Read reviews and see what you like.
-I don't wear combat / protective gear (aside from goggles).

From just reading your post, I'd say you should just forget about airsoft for three more years.

When you say you dont wear combat protective gear, you realize you are saying you dont wear goggles..... Hes not asking what you wear, hes asking what he should wear. There is a difference. At first, you dont need combat pants, you should see how the game works, see the kind of conditions/terrain the fields close to you have and buy combats according to the conditions. (eg, forest, sand, urban ect) Definately get a good pair of paintball approved goggles and go from there.

My bad... I don't even think of goggles since I often forget I'm wearing them.

Cheap goggles that you buy for a workshop are generally not a good idea. I've tested them and my M4 blows holes through them like paper.


You don't need ANYTHING other than an airsoft and a facemask (or goggles at the least).

Also since soft air (as in clear plastic guns from canadian tire) has nothing to do with airsoft (They don't resemble a firearm at all) I don't see a problem with them being shot in the backyard. As long as the neighbors don't get mad and you wear protective goggles. I'm pretty sure thats why canadian tire sells them...to have fun in your back yard.

Since you already own a clear plastic softair gun I am assuming your partents bought it for you. Your partents would have to purchase all the airsoft guns for you. Just read lots about the sport and don't post up already asked questions and you will do fine.

ya I know we take all percautions and my buddy lives on an acerage. I live in Sylvan Lake alberta. I wasnt trying to bring Paintball and airsoft together I just know how to handle some basic saftey measures. I know those guns arent real are soft guns but there the closest things we can get right now Im convincing my parents to help me purchase one. Im resposible and not one of those kids whp runs our and who shoots people sorry for the misunderstanding

If you are SERIOUS about getting into airsofting, you should have your parents contact a retailer and have them informed of all the risks involved with airsoft.

When you play games, you should have a parent/guardian supervise you as well as other experienced players (thats right, no running around shooting each others on your "buddy"'s acreage). It only takes one person's carelessness to send somebody to the hospital and end up on the press.

One of (my) biggest concerns is when people own realistic looking airsoft rifles and they leave them out in the open PURPOSELY. Some people are such dolts that they want their friends to see so that they think they are 'cool'. Airsoft rifles are not toys, they are a SERIOUS piece of sporting equipment.

Last thing you have to keep in mind that airsoft is a sport of honor. Be honest with your parents and with your fellow players and you'll fit right in.

Well if your serious about playing you should Come out to a game. We play at a feild between Red Deer and sylvan lake. I'm not sure when the next game is or even if your allowed to come out (becasue of your age. I think there only allowing people over 16 to play) but we might take you into consideration becasue our feild needs more players. It's up to Cortexburn if you can come out or not. (I'm sure he will either PM you or resopnd to this thread.)

Thanks I actually emailed him with some questions already so he will answer soon hopefully I understand if Im not aloud to play on the field and I understand about the airsoft guns and the seriousness, but we were playing with soft air or w.e they are called and we had goggles and certain rules in place. A decent AEG will not get a bb stuck in skin.

a stock AEG should not stick in skin from 20ft it should just break the skin nicely and cause slight bleeding, but i have some upgraded AEG that will stick in the skin and even take out teeth.....smile

Thanks Erik, Hopefully i can show that alot of is youths arent as irresponsible as they say and i have contacted Cortex and we have talked and he has enlightened me and what happens
