Ares m4

Hey guys, I was looking at purchasing a new m4 soon and one in particular caught my eye. It's the new Ares m4a1. Full metal, very realistic and good looking. But does anyone know how this thing would perform? I'm looking at trying to make it a dmr, so I need accuracy and reliability. The only other gun I was looking at would be the g&g m4 plastic max.

Hi, I would suggest you get Age verified before you purchase either gun. ASC's retail and classified sections are treasure troves of guns.

The MAX series requires you downgrade your gun
The ARES series are beautiful but use proprietary parts

If you were AVed I would suggest other brands

What exactly would I need to downgrade? And yeah the area is a very beautiful gun (especially with a functioning bolt catch) . I would like my gun to be as accurate as possible (out to around 200 feet) but reliable (last me 3 to 4 years)

For M4's, I'd recommend:
1. PTW $1500+
2. G&P $500+
3. King Arms $300
And nothing else.

The MAX series shoots retardedly fast. Check with your local group but usually CQB is capped at around 350 fps and outdoors around 400 fps.

Bare minimum, you need to swap the spring to something more reasonable. Since the mechbox will already be opened you might want to do some preventive work as well.

Both these guns will probably last 3-4 years with a yearly tune up and the occasional fix. Any gun will require maintenance, even Tokyo Marui's, notorious for their low maintenance, benefit from a yearly tune up. If you don't feel up to the task local players can help you out.

The reason I pointed out the proprietary parts issue with ARES is that you are at the mercy of sourcing parts, search around ASC and you'll see this is sometimes quite a problem.

Again, with AV, you get access to sellers that either stock or can import just about anything so you would have a better selection of brands.

Yeah I really should get a'vd I need to get on that. Just as a side question, I am trying to make the gun into a dmr, do would you have any ideas as what upgrades I would need to do to it?

Why not start with one of the SR-25 variants if it's a DMR you want?

Oh and wouldn't the ares need to be downgraded too? Because they both shoot 400-450 fps, or at least the one that I'm looking at does

A popular upgrade is a MOSFET kit to either cap the gun to semi or limit auto somewhat.

After that, full length barrel hidden with a silencer, relevant internal work to insure consistent shooting speed (much, much more important than actual speed) and the likes.

Consider going for an m16 instead.

Again, depends where you play but yes. Besides at 450 you gun will not last long, there is significant work to be done on a mechbox to keep it from imploding at those speeds not present on stock guns.

What lengths would I need for my barrel? And also what would be a good speed to keep the gun at? I would like it to be a dmr. Oh yeah and out of the guns mentioned , which do you think is the best (just incase I stay with the m4 platform)

Get Av'ed and this place is great, but

M4 suggestions.....

1. TM, the only draw back is it isn't a metal body though upgrades are available an new models are availabe that are, I think mine was just an older version. I have nothing but good things to say about TM. It was my first M4, and it was a work horse. I did have upgraded internals, mech box, spring, piston, inner barrel ect.... however it survived 2 years without incident and I played often, and in all types of weather. The only thing I didn't like was the barrel wobble. Though in most cases you can fix that, or limit it. But it was consistent in it's fps 420 - 423 always, accuracy was great. By the time it finally packed it in I had sold it and it lasted a while longer. The new owner's problem was the teeth stripped on the piston. But that is with considerable wear and lots of use. He fixed it in no time and it was up and running again.

2. KWA: I loved this rifle, it was everything that my TM was and a little more. Full metal, good fps, accuracy out of the box. Though it unfortunately didn't last as long; however, the support KWA gave me for this rifle was excellent. I was running a lipo battery on it, and one small piece broke inside the mech box. KWA not only replaced my mech box for FREE, but they ensured they gave me the latest and greatest and followed up. I had sold the rifle because I all but got out of airsoft because of family commitments, and I didn't have as much time to go out. But I'd still have it now if it wasn't for that fact. The games I did use this rifle it preformed magnificiently. I liked the feel much more than my TM. I just wish I had more time with it.

But I think every brand is capable of being great or crap. Sometimes it's just QC. The most reliable rifle/smg I owned in matter of fact that gave me no issues what so ever was my wifes JG MP5. I know not an M4, but if your willing to spend a little more and get things right, anything can be made reliable. But that is something you will decide.

Last time I built a DMR it was based on a G&P SAM-R, so I can't really comment on how to proceed for an M4. There are plenty of builds and posts here, just searching "DMR" yielded a whole bunch of threads. Look around, it's been discussed often.

Again, fps depends a lot on where you play. Although there are middle-grounds, if you expect to only play outside or only CQB the approach will vary quite a bit.

If you take one thing out of this is that accuracy is a by-product of repeatability, which is why I'm putting a lot of emphasis on shot consistency.

You need to understand that to achieve this you need a solid base gun with good aftermarket support. That kinda kills the ARES. The G&G seems to be the next best choice but tolerances are troublesome, leading to issues with upgrades.

If it were my money, I'd say none of the two.

Okay, so what gun would beable to give me all that? I've also heard a lot about the king arms m4, any info on that?

I wish I could get a kwa or TM but I just don't have the money, I'll have to keep looking.
