The Maruzen CA870 takes a magazine and is spring powered. The Maruzen M870 is a gas operated shotgun and takes blue Maruzen shot shells. I've held one of the gas ones a long while back. It has a nice finish, feels solid and the pump action is very nice. Shooting it is a different story, it's pretty quiet, sort of a pop sound. Range is effective for CQB. The only drag I found was that the shot shells eject after each pump, it adds to the realism but playing with it on a field you could lose shells easily. Like arcticfox stated the shells aren't cheap. I believe Madmax had a box attached to his at one game, he used it as a shell catcher so he wouldn't lose the shells.

Perosnal dont like the ejecting shells on the shottie.
because i cant afford to lose them. The Maruzen 870 is awsome, i know my friend has an 8mm version, The perfomace is awsome and the wieght feels like real steel. the only complaint i have is the grip feels plasticly which is common on the airsoft shotguns, becuase wood kits would drive the price up.

There's nothing wrong with the Marui M3.

If you want the ultimate combination of realism (in terms of appearance, and action for the most part), beauty and practicality, go for any Marushin M500 (available in 6 or 8 mm). I can attest to their fantasticality. No shells, and no spring to compress, only problem is reloading in the field, as it is a bit more complex than the Maruzen or TM shotguns.

The TM shotguns are nice, except for the Tactical Launcher, it's like a "bargain airsoft" type thing, though I don't think it normally goes for bargain prices...
Only real problem with the TM ones is the tri-nozzle breakins spontaneously, but I'm working on a solution to not only fix, but solve the problem. I think that there are other solutions in the works too.

I've played around with one of those 8mm shell ejecting ones, they're really, really nice. The increased likeliness of losing shells is definately a concern, but you can get shell bags for that that fit over the door they go out. I don't know if it's a perennial problem, but the one I toyed with a bit had a tendency for the shell being ejected to not eject, and therefore not let the next shell load unless you held the thing at just the right angle.

Overall, Shotguns are Fun.
