Steyr aug vs. Famas

Before I get started I want to set the record straight. Yes I am a newb, so therefore I know nothing of airsoft and am a waste of BB's. But I played a very, very, very small skirmish with a couple of lame spring guns a while ago and i'm hooked. I want to know which gun would go better for a newb who liks rushing more than sitting back and waiting, wants something with a high rate of fire and decent accuracy, and is not overused or seen very often (which to my understanding is both of these. I think they look cool) So if anybody can take time out of their day to help me out I want a bit of insight into which would be better for a first Aeg.

I know nothing about either the famas or the aug, except for that the famas is a older style gun and there's not as much upgrades.

Sorry thats all I can answer.

stick with TM guns and you cant go wrong. up top there is the canadian retailers section...check them out...EXPECT to pay about 1000-1500 initially to get started with this sport. It is financially demanding and usually cutting corners means that you will end up spending double in the end.

if you do not have the money, save up until you do.

best thing to do in your case is find a local game to attend to. you will be able to see different guns and most of the time the players are nice enough to let you test fire their guns if you like them.

try to rent a gun before emptying yout pockets.

FAMAS= Ver.1
AUG= Ver. 3 or 6, depending on the gun.
If you want to keep your gun stock the FAMAS is great, because of the high rate of fire it's great for hosing. I'd take the AUG though because performing upgrades will be less of a headache, and the Ver. 3 or 6 mechbox should be more reliable. I've skirmished with both, and the AUG does feel a bit more solid. Try both, see which you like better. Meh.

here a quick break down of both.

TM AUG
Good
- Bulit better
- long inner barrel
- shoots a accurate

Bad
- Heavy
- its big if your a small person
- its a little different to hold.
- not many upgrades

FAMAS
- Shoots FAST
- compact to move around
- decent range
- Bad Ass upgrades

BAD
- A little light
- Could be bulit better

Over if i had to choose, i would look at a FAMAS if your planning on play up front. and a AUG if you want to lay back and snipe.

i like both these guns. iam a fan of the bull pup design, but I own a famas it is about four years old now i believe, gone through two owners, a good one and a young kid who didnt clean it lube it and dry fired it lots. Still the gun is solid, still works like new, I love how tight it is, easily manuverable and you can mod m16 clips to work with it to boot. I would say definatly get one. Its Tm and they last for ever.

wow everyone is so clueless.

Famas is a version 1
MP5/M16 version 2
Aug is a version 3
PSG1 is a version 4
Uzi - version 5
Thompson/P90 - version 6
M14 - version 7

The Famas is hard to upgrade. You will likely need torqe up gears. Plus metal bushings and a spring. Ive never owned one but its the first version and from what I hear it breaks down alot when upgraded.

The Aug all you need to upgrade are metal bushings and a spring. Ver3 mechbox is almost impossible to break. Its also one of the most quiet mechboxs out of them all.

IMO the Aug is the better gun by far.

Did you ever upgrade it. Or just keep it stock. You know me, a stock gun doesnt stay that way for long in my hands. In most cases Ive upgraded my guns the day after I bought them. When I bought my Aug I shot a low cap out of it then took it apart. Had it shooting 370 a few hours after it was in my hands

EDIT: Thought I was talking to peter lol. Eh swatt you know that your avatar is a picture of phalanix?

I love my AUG, very nice feel, comfortable, I love the fact that it's almost official weight. I've got the "civilian" version, so I have a nice RDS on it. I've got a PDI140 in it, Systema piston, 9.6V 1200mAh battery, and when I get the extra time and money I'm putting a tight bore in it. I need to get a set of reinforced gears now though... the stock ones just gave up on me... decided they didn't want to do the work anymore... I think it's firing mid 300s but it hasn't been chronied with the upgrades yet, I'm going to get it done when I put the new gears in.

Keir Forget have you considered a TM p90? It's lighter and newer then an AUG or FAMAS, and because its smaller, the p90 is better suited for rushing around.
I own an AUG and IMO its weight and long barrel make it a bad choice for running around with. The AUG is a better weapon for sitting back and sniping with.

It depends on how big you are too... for me, the AUG is a great size, it's not so small as to feel toyish, but it's not a huge M60... it's a good size for me. It's smaller than an M16 anyway.

Thats why you should be smart like me and get a small MP5-K and a nice long and big AUG, you can switch around easily
