DAS DICKE ENDE KOMMT NOCH! First Special Service Force Impression; Port Cros, August 1944
I had the opportunity this morning to take some pictures of my FSSF impression. A mix of airsoft, repro and original period gear.

Nice loadout, but I haven't seen any forcemen using mitchell helmet covers in my ref. pictures. Mind sharing yours?
Where did you get the Artic Parka? eBay?

Not a mitchell cover. Its the 'green' reverse side of the marines cover (I think)

It wasn't that hot on Sunday morning. I had that entire kit on for maybe 4 hours.
There are quite a few pics of Forcemen wearing their parkas during Dragoon. No fur lining except for the hood. The parka is reversible. Not sure if it is a "fashion item" or an original. Either way, from what I have seen in reference books it is pretty close to the specs of a Version 3 Parka. I bought a few of them off of ebay. I own a version one parka (much longer with fur on the cuffs) that is definitely the real deal (dated 1942). That one isn't getting within 1,000 feet of a paintball field (the pics were taken just outside of the local paintball field. I'll probably revive this thread when the snow falls with a Freddie's Freighters FSSF impression. Need to get a Yukon packboard first though. Quote:
While not necessarily Forcemen, there are plenty of pics of US soldiers wearing this on their helmet. It's there more to obscure the post war liner than anything. I am failry certain that there is one commonly known photograph of 3 Forcemen in a mortar pit with one of them wearing an impovised cover on the helmet. Obviously it's different than what I used but it is still a makeshift helmet cover. Edit: found the pic. Forceman on the left is wearing a makeshift helmet cover. Most certainly FSSF due to the Johnson LMG. Also FSSF entering Rome:
