KWA 1911 MKIV, decent sidearm?

So I've been looking at sidearms for my kit, and as the title states I've narrowed it down to the KWA 1911 MKIV which I'll use to try and replicate the Operator from MGS4. But I'd like to hear from some of the more seasoned members here on what the quality would be like.

And before people reply with the usual "get AV'd", I'm merely doing some info digging before I actually set my mind on anything, and I'm planning on heading to Edmonton withing a couple weeks and will get AV'd there.

I have a KWA 1911 MKIV and it is a very serviceable sidearm. The ambi-safety is a bit loose, but that is the only issue. Velocity runs right around 350 FPS with a .20gr BB and green gas. The pistol is reasonably accurate and I have no problem hitting a man-sized target at 50 feet.

Is the loose ambi-safety something that can be fixed or is it something not overly annoying?

Western Arms has an Operator you can just buy.

Or you could take a TM Hicapa with TK grip. the "grip" panels may not be accurate, but the frame would. Just get a matching slide and threaded barrel.

I <3 my Hicapa.

I'd love to own a WA or TM, I just down own the legal tender to purchase one.

As far as a threaded barrel goes, my brother is doing metalworks in highschool(very well I might add), and can thread a barrel for me.

It is easy to thread metal.

But why don't you just wait? You'll bite your fingers.

My brother is always looking for a project in metalwork, so I usually have him do anything along that line.

As far as waiting goes, nothing is set in stone so far besides being set on a 1911 platform, so I have until December to decide on one. I noticed this one on a retailer for $280(I won't say which one in case there's some kiddies trolling), so I figured I'd get an opinion on it.

threading the barrel isnt the issue, you need a barrel thats a CM longer than the slide before you can thread it however, and are KWA outer barrels not plastic? i dont htink they are metal on the 1911 series'

Ouch.... I don't think I want a plastic barrel on a full metal gun.

get one of the cheap KJW MEUs, buy threaded barrel: profit!
they have the same style slide and frame as what you're looking for, on the lower, some silver krylon then some black over it will make it look like metal

The slide is perfect, however(although the pic I posted says otherwise) I'd need a frame similar to a Kimber which is on the KWA. It would probably be easier to purchase the KWA and a threaded barrel and a dovetail sight instead of getting a barrel and a new lower frame and the other parts I'd need. I'm not going to have a big budget to build this thing, so the cheaper I can go, the better.

A Hicapa, stock, new, is just a bit more than that. Would save you so much hassle IMO.

Or just get a Army MEU, buy some TM mags, and hope you don't get a lemon. Might just get more expensive repairing what breaks first than buying a TM though.
