Hi Cappa Questions

Hi all,

I've been playing airsoft for a while now, bought my first weapon system, (G&G M4 CQB-R), added a few accessories and what not.

Now I want to expand my armoury with a seconday weapon system. I've looked at ALOT of handguns and the one i'm settling on is the Hi-Cappa 5.1 Dragon. I do have some questions though.

Is it Canadian Legal? or is there a Canadian legal version?
Where on Earth can I get one?

What on Earth is a Hi-Cappa? a modified 1911? I can't seem to locate a real world counterpart.

I'm still new to the whole world of guns. So if I sound like an idoit i'm sorry.

It's basically a dbl stacked 1911. Very accurate and has a lot of upgrades for it as well.
Get ge verified and you will many places where you can buy one.

Canadian legal is just a marketing gimmick. Pretty much everything is "Canadian legal" once it crosses the border.

I haven't seen them for sale outside the classifieds on this site so easiest/best place is getting Age verified and perusing the classifieds.

The Hi-Capa is a modified double stack 1911, basically a "racegun" for use in IPSC shooting.

Also it's best to get the TM Hi-Capa rather than clones of the Hi-Capa because of the QC and fitment issues if you choose to upgrade down the road. That is except for the WA "Hi-Capa" (NOT WE (Wei Tech) but WA as in (Western Arms) which are super nice pistols) but I highly doubt you have the money to throw around for something like that (it's something I'd like myself but it doesn't look like its happening in the near future)

Thanks all.

I'm hoping to get age verified this weekend. Gaming all day today so i hope to run into someone today or tomorrow at the swap meet.

As far as cost I find the money needed to buy my gear. I went without TV for 3 months to get my m4 whats a couple more to get the next weapon.

Just saying, pistol is nice to have, looks nice, but not serves too well. I see and know a lot of people game without a sidearm. Buy what you have to use during a game, like a good pair of boot and comfortable goggle/glasses rather than a dead weight you never really use.

Good to hear. (EDIT: I also second what faithless says but a pistol is just so kickass looking to have, but yes you should also focus on gear that you actually need first than dead weight that just costs a lot to have on you).

As for the WA that I was mentioning, AFAIK they're done in limited runs usually so that adds to the rarity and therefore price of what they'll cost so just for reference lets look at one selling overseas:

The WA SVI 4.3 "Hi-Capa"

Cost $380 USD overseas for a VERY NICE pistol. To get that in Canada an average markup is somewhere between 1.5-2X the overseas list price. So $570-760 is somewhere you'd be looking at for one of those. Now to worry about mags. Pistol mags aren't restricted so you can buy them yourself however they don't come cheap either. At $50 USD each for a pistol mag (average overseas) you don't want to lose them on the field plus shipping/brokerage etc. you could be looking at $55-60 each mag even with the strong Canadian dollar.

So easily for a WA plus 2 or 3 mags you're looking at $750+.... Now for me that's a bit too rich for my blood and even not buying TV for a year wouldn't be enough (assuming average TV subscription is $45/mo = $540/yr).

With the TM however they're nice solid built guns and more in line to the budget of a person like me.

Average price of a TM Hi-Capa (4.3 or 5.1) in the classifieds (new) is about $300 for the gun and mag, used might go for $275 or more depending on what's included how it's been taken care of, upgrades, etc. So for the Hi-Capa mags are more in line with an average of $25-30 USD each (overseas) and since they're not restricted and the Canadian dollar is good you can approximate an average of $35 each landed in Canada (plus you can find them used in the classifieds since they're so commonplace). So gun plus 3 mags you could be looking at $425-ish which a year without TV will get you.

PS: Good to hear about the compromises and saving that you go through to get things, shows a lot of discipline for financial matters which is a good thing since airsoft will suck your wallet dry if you let it get out of control (especially in Canada with the situation of hard to get guns that aren't necessarily kosher for crossing the border).

NOTE: This is just one example that I pulled, there are some WA pistols that sell for less but they're still pretty expensive compared to a TM. Consider WA the "exotic sportscar" of pistols that cost a lot and are really nice, while the TM is just a "regular sportscar" that still cost a lot but less and are still nice but cheaper to get (ie. BMW 5 vs Lambo Murcielago).

The other thing to mention is that a 19/2011 makes for a great race-gun but a relatively poor combat secondary. I know people will argue with me and cite websites etc.

Bottom line is few militares use them and pretty much none are switching to them. Tells you something right there.

Look for a duty pistol. Hold a few at games and consider if you are trying to match a particular load-out with your gear.

there are other reasons I want the Hi Cappa besides its design. My team is looking at making it part of our requirements in the loadout as a dragon model. if there is an easier way to get something similar I'm all ears. The other idea was to go Glock but it seems very common place to carry one. we wanted something unique that not only performs well but looks Kick Ass too.

Again all ideas are welcome in helping find that unique piece to add to our loadout.

Going without TV is easy listening to the GF whine about not having it..... well lets just say thats its a good thing I game regularly.

The WE Dragon is nt the best model FYI, the slide is really heavy and the recoil spring is super stiff and gas efficiency is horrible.

Also WE stands for Worst Ever, their newer hicapa 5.1 is "ok" and so is their P14 but of all their hicapa models to get, the dragon is probably the worst to get. I got one on thr classifieds here for $120 shipped with 2 mags, that's how bad it is.

I only wanted it for the full length frame it came with, and I still use that frame on my Noobkiller 5000 with TM and Upgrade internals and externals.

Go with a TM, the reliability is amazing, and you can get A PILE of upgrade parts that are made for it.

*edit*

If you are considering glocks, tm just slcame out with a new g18 which has full auto, and you can get a carbine kit to go onto it if you want to make it look different

If you want something that performs well, first of all, don't get the Dragon model. Secondly, don't get a WE unless you're on a tight budget. TM Hi-Capa all the way.

okay all good ideas and I saw the TM Glock 18c but no where for sale in canada. The carbine kit seemed like over kill but cool none the less and would make for a very unique piece on the battlefield. mind you if i could I'd get the FPG9 from magpul I totally would.

and If I can get them brought over.. just tell where and I'll be ordering them next payday!
Seriously! I'd order them on October 5!
