Sniper Weapons

Guys I was wondering that snipe weapons are best at each price point? this could be stock or with mods but you have to stay under the total $ amount. Please note this will be in USD not Canadian because this makes life easier for googleing lol.

$100
$150
200
300
400
500
750
1000
1000+

Personally I'm thinking of using a A&k SVD to start with and then maybe upgrade it but I'm a newbie and I've got a lot to learn before I start modding my gear.

Please feel free to post what you use and how you've found it.

Add all that up and you will have a decent sniping platform, cheap and sniper platform in airsoft is like going to a KKK convention and shouting Black power and expect to leave unscathe....it will never happen. The best sniper platform, tuned and GTG are about $2000 to start and the price goes up depends on the toys you put on. A half decent ones can run you from about $1000 and up depending on the choices, Why not clones? I can get a clone sniper for $100.......yeah sure but you will end up spending an extra $700-$800 in upgrade parts just to make it a semi decent platform

So what your saying is that unless I pay 4400 from the start I can't start and learn to snipe? I thinking I ignore you now.

An A&K SVD is a good choice. It's easily up and down graded with AEG springs and it takes AEG hop ups, and barrels. For a budget minded sniper platform it's totally adequate......and it looks cool.

For a decent sniper GTG meaning no more mods needed you are looking at over $2200 plus scope options you will be at around $2800 mark, spare parts, mags etc you will be running well into the $3000 or even $4000 mark

*Edit* Even if you go with an AEG, inner barrel and other upgrades can easily put you over the $1000 mark and it will probably match or maybe perform better than a regular AEG unless you start the heavy mods like custom inner barrel etc.
If you insist on a sniper AEg platform to start try any long barrel AEG such as M16a3, AUG, G3 they all perform pretty much the same

What's a good mile marker for a snipe rifle? I mean what can I expect from a poor sniper and a great one?

I'm also thinking of the SVD cause I'm a A&K user and it's nice to match

Seriously dude?
Mile Markers?

This is Airsoft, not RS.
We measure in Feet, not Miles.

Sorry I'll clean up my slang I used mile marker as in "ear mark or goal to reach for".

What I meant to say was "At what range should a "good" or "Bad" sniper rifle reach (ft or M) and still be able to hit someone's ....say chest?

I believe one of the guys was using a VSR 10 (not fully sure) and it was hitting chests at ~150 to ~200ft with no wind. Was this good or bad?

For a done up VSR 10 is possible but for not stock long barrel AEG, you will need a longer inner barrel possibly even a custom size, boreup cylinder kit to push more air etc.

My SOCOM GEAR M82A1 with the custom sized inner barrel will reach 200ft but my Killer studio APS2 with the PDI 300% spring and cylinder kit will easily out range that with a heavier bb but it will also not fieldable due to the high fps but because it has a custom 780mm inner barrel it will be very accurate, great for accuracy and distanced shots

Great: Consistency, Accuracy, Range, Reliability

Poor: Inconsistency, not reliable etc.

You have to put AT MINIMUM $1000 into a rifle before it is half decent.

The main thing a sniper goes for is consistency, not range, not fps.
You can put a couple hundred in and you get range.
You can put a couple hundred in and you get fps.

But you have to put a couple thousand in to get consistency.

Mine is worth $1800 now, I can hit a head sized object at 250ft 4/5 times.

Your goal should be having perfectly consistent shots mag in and mag out.

I'm not sure if this is directed at me, but the A&K SVD is a manually operated spring rifle, but it just happens to take AEG springs, barrels, hopups. I hope that clears up any confusion.

In my opinion, the thing you're looking for right off the bat is consistency and accuracy.

Range is all fine and good, but if you don't have any shot-to-shot consistency, you might as well be throwing BBs onto the ground.

You will want to get a decent sniper platform and put a new spring, piston, piston head, cylinder and hopup in there...for starters. Make sure those things work smoothly together before you go crazy upgrading springs and stuff.

Tight bore barrels are also important, but not as important as the first few things I mentioned.

You will also want a ghillie suit, which you will need to make yourself, but that's another story.

edit: forgot to talk price...like others have said, if you're looking for a good sniper rifle under $1,000, you'll be looking at well-used ones. Building a sniper rifle from the ground up is an expensive venture.

At Lvl 3's, my MINIMUM MED is 200ft.

Ie. If my accuracy + consistancy isnt DEAD on (without external influences), Im not gonna hit shit.

Keep that in mind when purchasing a rifle and upgrades. This is also why people say dont buy clones. Spending 1000$ on upgrades on a clone rifle, will ultimately leave you with a 1000$ pile of garbage as the inconsistancies and tolerance issues with the bodies will pretty much make it useless for hitting anything other than a barn.

And yes, I said BARN not Barn door.
