I've posted this info before. I worked at UPS and if you ship UPS Express there are no brokerage fees. It is worth sometimes paying for express if you want to avoid unexpected fees.

Well I tried the Express method that's been mentioned. I didn't have much of a choice in retailers as I like these guys but they maintain that they'll only ship UPS due to USPS fraud and losing their packages.. whatever.
In anycase, there are no Broker fees when using Express, BUT you will still get dinged the duty and what not. On a $400.00 order, I have to pay $72.00. I suspect that your package will always be looked at when going with UPS. Where as with USPS its more random which packages they check. The benefit is I pretty much paid the same amount with going Express vs UPS regular since they didn't have broker fee's, and I ended up getting my package in 2 days.

express is bullshit, you're just paying their "brokerage fee" in advance
$120 order of ESS glasses, $25 to ship regular UPS, $65 to ship "expedited/express" I shipped it regular and it got hit with $50 some charge, a week after their 3rd warning they phoned me about it, ended up going to UPS, getting the papers and clearing it myself Cost me less than $15 and gas Although naming your products "crossbow" and "suppressor" typically doesn't go over well when trying to clear it yourself lol I don't know how these criminals stay in business... Anyone else ships the same package at half to 3/4 the cost, with no hidden fees. |

Yup its out of line. I suppose they have good relationships with businesses. And then there are people like me who say "Well I gotta have it from this place!".

Dont touch, not even with 9ft clown pole.
Ups & Dhl got me paying 70% surplus of the package. That is how I learned the virtue of patience. |

Because they give company contracts good deals......then recoup costs by shafting the end customer.

I believe SME's and large enterprises can get up to like 70% discount on shipping with UPS. Smaller guys (eg. mom and pop shops, eBay sellers, smaller franchises, etc.) get lower like 30% off but large enterprises and MNC's (ie. Newegg, Evike, Nike, etc.) get crazy discounts.
Actually it might be beneficial to sign up for an eBay UPS account to realize savings on your end if you need to ship things out and you may even get favourable treatment for inbound packages. http://pages.ebay.com/upssavings/index.html

Fuck the savings, UPS needs to go bankrupt. Within the last 10 years, I have never without exception not been charged for 60% or more of my package's value as brokerage fees. Most recently a Blackhawk Serpa ($40 on a $49 package), as I mistakenly hoped things had gotten better. If a company only ships via UPS, I will not do business with them. Thankfully, certain UPS-only airsoft retailers will now ship USPS on request provided you pay the "extra" costs. |
