All valid points, so back to large area piston powered by neodymium magnets during power stroke/reverse magnetized for reverse stroke? The only issue I can see there is that it'll be a silent aeg with a different form factor box which would not be worth the effort.

You are not getting it.

It is not "powered" by fixed magnets at all. It is powered by an electromagnet. It has to be this way, there is no way to switch off a fixed magnet, nor alter polarity.

This is a great discussion. Things have changed in the last few years. You never know where innovation or solutions will come from. Keep up the discussion, who cares if it wasn't doable at one time, there is at least the possibility of a solution. Now, please don't play the "it's physics card" - one would need to understand in full all concepts and have a firm belief that we know all we need to know. It would also require full and complete knowledge of current available technologies and those in development. I get this is simply an exercise, Yet with super efficient room temperature conductors like graphine...et al, we can at least dream.

I think perhaps one day it may be a workable concept.

But not now. Not anywhere near now.

So thinking about it is really a waste of time.

This forum is about airsoft, not pipe dreams.

Don't let them crush your dreams, if you really want to build something go for it. I do believe you'd find a better home for this discussion on the Airsoft Mechanics forum, my brain is still sore from lurking in there months ago. I remember the Golden Era of paintball when electro-pneumatic guns like the hideous Shocker to the jaw-dropping Angel came out and (for better or for worse) changed paintball almost instantly, especially at competitive levels.
