I'm no marketing expert but if they stayed on message with 'one pattern - all environments, the only gear you will need' they could probably still smoke the competition. All this jive talk about ATACS but where is it exactly? Some airsofters and paintballers? Compare that to the huge mil/le/gov/foreign contracts for multicam and it's a joke.

Just my 2 cents. I still want to see more though, I wont lie
Well said.

In marketing, this is their "unique selling point" (USP), and they should keep enhancing such good market positioning. If they really develop the patterns as said, they would become no difference to their competitors.

A big mistake.

they don't have a choice, they have been selected as the camo pattern for the US army, and SF.. terrain specific patterns were stipulated in the requirements.

1 universal pattern for general issue- with a multi terrain capability, plus a suite of environment specific versions for theater specific issue ( to be used mostly by the SF )

"marketing" is not really coming into this decision.

AFAIK, the Army wanted a transitional pattern(for general issue) as well as a Woodland and Arid variant of the pattern for Operations(where the transitional pattern isn't ideal). I believe they wanted another variant of the pattern for their LBE(that would work with the Transitional, Woodland, and Arid patterns).
I said.. "mostly" Sf.. not "Only"

also.. if you look at scale and type of deployments needing terrain specific kit, it's going to be mostly SF that ends up prancing around in "alpine" multicam.

They say the black's actually been out for months on the Hot Shots calender but for some reason no one noticed.

AFAIK, they were only looking at a transitional, woodland, arid, and a PPE/LBE pattern. If the US Army deploys to a area where a arid or woodland pattern would be better than the transitional pattern, they would issue the appropriate uniform; at least that is their plan. I am only referring/talking about what has been announced by the US Army for their UCP replacement.

Is the US Army purchasing/wanting a "alpine" Multicam? Or did you just randomly choose that for your example?
Random choice.. but I still want to see their take on "alpine"

Awesome, thanks Xav!

Skeletor, I'm pretty sure that the transitional is meant to be used for PPE.

That Tropical gives me a boner.

Also:
Quote:
THE MULTICAM FAMILY OF PATTERNS CONSISTS OF:

MultiCam: The base – the original combat-proven pattern that offers the widest range of environmental effectiveness – ideally suited for apparel & gear that must be employed throughout mixed or varied environments.

MultiCam Arid: A pattern intended for open sand and rock – ideally suited for apparel when working exclusively in bright open desert terrain.

MultiCam Tropic: A pattern intended for deep verdant jungle use – ideally suited for apparel when working exclusively in a dense jungle environment.

MultiCam Alpine: A pattern intended for snow-covered areas – ideally suited for over-garments and gear covers when/where snow cover is present.

MultiCam Black: While not a geographically-based pattern, MultiCam Black gives law enforcement groups a sharp and authoritative presence suited to domestic L.E. operations where projecting a strong and distinct image is a critical concern. MultiCam Black is designed to complement a wide range of existing armor and gear colors (for instance, green or black vests both look well-matched when paired with MultiCam Black uniforms).

Just realized there was an alpine one, that would be a nice parka pattern!
