I believe it's real.
Don't worry about the missing U.S. Pat.#. What you're buying is the RIS version which has different markings from the RAS version(pictured). If you can see a better pic of the heat shield markings, check if KAC is spelt correctly. Notice on the China clone, company is splet "copany". Also, I'm quite sure KAC RIS/RAS is made of aluminum and not steel. My RAS don't weight like if it was made of steel.

You asked:
First off his on the inside says Vero Beach, and mine says Titusville When we were located in Vero Beach, everything was so marked. We have been making these in Titusville since we moved here from Vero Beach about 4 years ago. -Mine also has a "cage No. 1S002, his has no such number. That is our Government assigned Cage Code Number. On our later contracts, the Army made us add that to our marking. Like in the Vero Beach days, we also placed our phone number on our parts, then later the Army made us remove it. -Mine has a Flat screwdriver head on the screw for the claw, His has a hex head Sounds like you have a RAS (i.e., the screw and clamp (claw?) at the rear of the assembly. A RIS has a screw and clamp at the front. The original RAS uses a hex head screw, this changed earlier this year to a slotted screw with a bent-metal retainer so the Soldier could loosen the screw and remove the upper for cleaning, but not loose the screw because it remains captive by the retainer even though it is loose. -Mine has a different looking front top clip at the front of the rail from the one I see on your website I believe you mean the flat spring that sticks out the front of the RAS? This has little side-bends in it now so it can only be inserted under the forend cap, as it straddles the gas tube, per Army request. One thing that made this an important change is that the original RIS has a similar projection at the front, but this piece must be installed on top of the forend cap. So units that had RIS’s and then were subsequently issued the RAS installed the new RAS improperly because of their experience with the RIS. Also has the U.S Pat. # 5,826,363 Yes, that is our patent number. I'm kinda worried that I got ripped off. I cant see the production date ( RIS is mounted ) but it does have one. If you could confirm that this still sounds like a original KAC RIS that would be greatly appreciated Sounds to me like you are good to go with the genuine article. Good shooting. Thank you for considering Knight's Armament Company.

This looks real to me, only because I've NEVER seen an airsoft replica reach the level of detail that those pictures show. Not even half as close.

Pretty much everything that's any good in the U.S. involving guns in any way is export restricted. Everything. Just because you receive it does not mean that it's all OK. You may in fact be facing a fine or prosecution and don't even know it.
When the DoS in the U.S. catches someone (retailer, manufacturer or civillian) violating their export regs, they face fine/imprisonment, and the foreign national does as well. If you flout their system because you live in Canada and believe you are in the clear, think again. If you try to go on vacation to Vegas 3 years from now, you may be arrested trying to cross the border. Their justice system has a long memory. There is good reason to be wary about what you buy from the U.S.. Export restrictions are there primarily as a money-grab for the U.S. government. It's not illegal that foreign nationals own a KAC RAS, but the seller must pay for the export permits, there must be an end-user agreement and import paperwork on the Canadian side. If this is all in order, then you can have your stuff. But most Americans won't pay $1750 for a permit to export a $200 rail system. In larger quanitities, it becomes worthwhile, and is done this way already. With the exception of sensitive technologies, we can still find pretty much any item you want in Canada already, if you know where to look.
