Technically, all of us who may have purchased guns since Dec 21 1998 have done so illegally and are technically in unlawful posession of prohibited items. Any replicas owned before that date are grandfathered and legal to use and own. They don't prosecute airsoft owners because it's not worth it. No real payoff or benefit for the cost, effort, and manpower required to get convictions. Technically, they COULD bust most of us, but don't bother. They rather go after the importers instead.
So while airsoft itself isn't illegal, it's not legal either. Hence the grey area.

Grandfathering is a specific legislative activity. Replica firearms are not grandfathered. What happened was that they said replica firearms are ok to possess (and would've also been in association, ok to acquire) but they popped in a couple regulations to the contrary. Acquiring replica firearm breaks the law, as a result. The only so called grey area is that some people argue that airsoft guns aren't, as a whole, replica firearm. I call that wishful thinking.

They are showing to the public that they are removing non-firing, sport oriented devices. But FUCK MEN!...they would impress me if these same GOVERMENT PEOPLE were able to screen the REAL GUNS which killed 20-25 people over the past year in GANG VIOLENCE in Lower Mainland.

The system is somewhat... Eccentric. Especially on airguns.

Focus on dealing with the gangs and the import of the illegal firearms. Firearms seized should be auctioned off to the community and the funds placed back into law enforcement. Airsoft....well, it's situation has been getting worse over the years. Not sure what the future may hold. I'm a member of the NFA and CSSA and I don't see the shooting community being all that open to the airsoft community. There are many reasons why it would bolster both communities to join up.....there is a rather large resentment (contempt?) for our community within the shooting community. That opinion of mine has been garnered from the views expressed on CGN, but I think it paints a fair picture of the situation. However, I'm not sure if anyone ever HAS approached either organization about airsoft.

Isnt there another problem in defination of airsoft as replica? It states some bb guns (Crossman) has the same appearance as a real steel but theyre not classsify as replica. They state 'Airsoft' as under replica, but apparantly clearsoft as toys....

Airsoft guns as we understand them are replicas because they closely resemble real firearms.
Clearsoft aren't replica because there are no transparent firearms. Pellet guns aren't considered replica because they are suppose to shoot hard enough to pierce skin. I'm pretty sure this has all been covered before elsewhere.

try to get a defination of bodily injury
Try and get a defination of bodily injury, because in fact that is the only thing different between Airsoft and c02 bb guns. None of the legal organizations will give you one. Also under that defination Clearsoft should be illegal but is not so go figure. Also note the date of 2002.

Well, I have emailed the CSSA numerous times and No answer.
Either there is no one home or as many of the posters have suggested .. they are not interested. I will try their forum later and let you know what comes up. |

I'd put my money on "not interested".
