Camera damage prevention in games
Anyone have a kind of "trick of the trade" thing to prevent any damage by BBs to a camera during a game? The chance of me trashing a few hundred dollars worth of technology is something to keep me away from trying anything like it.

Amos makes lense protector for optics. I dunno about the max size he can do. Or you could also look for those waterproof casing for camera, I sure they offer good protection (or you could reinforce the front with Lexan or Plexiglass)

Ahh, that sounds like a good idea, I'll get started looking for the waterproof case first then. Thanks!

I've heard of players using a cheap filter over their lens or something to slow down the velocity of the BB so the impact is lessened.
Are you using an SLR or something? By the sound of it you're using a Point and Shoot Digital. You could probably rig something up like a sheet of plexiglass in front of the camera. Although somehow you'd need to rig it up and it's kinda impractical if you're playing. I'm thinking it would be something like this (side view): Plexiglass: || Stick: --- Camera: Quote:

Haha, that diagram will do fine. The camera I'm planning to use is just a normal nikon digital camera (not those massive expensive ones), and I'll probably not be playing. But maybe I should just wear a red shirt so no one shoots me XD

Max size I can do is around 400mm... good enough for pro photo lenses
My material can stop a real steel .22 bullet... so it'll stop a BB |

lol i just all out with no protection what so ever. kill rag on the head and the understanding that players dont shoot at you, and you should be good. just shoot off angle of the the fire fight and the chanced of a lens hit are minimal. the problem is that with your camera, you cant get a telephoto lens for it, so you have to be much closer to the action. in some cases a big fancy nikon with a 300mm would be better, cause you could be farther away and still get some sweet action shots.

A protector is like 10 bucks for the most part lol (unless you have a 300mm lens... then it's close to 50... but still!!) |

have a written agreement that whoever shoots the cam, they will pay, no question asked with the friends you'll be taking photo's for?
I think its just fair since you're doing them a favor by sacrificing ur playtime to snap some action pix for them to brag about. |

Yea, I think Plexiglass over the lense would work pretty well.

If you're using an SLR, try an uncoated Tiffen filter... they won't shatter into a million bits like a regular filter if they're hit, they'll just crack like windshield glass. Carry a backup, of course.
