It's not 100% defective...it's just less than 3% effective.
On a serious note...
Cheap batteries are cheap because little to no effort is made to quality control, match cells or put much attention to assemble the packs.
Good packs are made with individual cells that have undergone a careful inspection/test...and then tested to rate each cell. Then cells are matched by lot/by performance rating and then meticulously assembled. Fancy lables and clear shrink wrap are gratis...
GP, Sanyo, Intellect...those are good battery packs. I still have a Intellect mini 8.4v 1400mah from two years ago....seen countless charges. I wouldn't game it anymore...but I keep it on the testing bench to use now and then. When new it would run an all day skirmish (some early shoot'em ups were close to a bag of bbs in a day...heheheh) with a stock TM (probably why I shot so much...probably didn't realize I couldn't reach 90% of the guys on the field...hahaha). I stopped using it when it wouldn't quite last a half day (much more conservative shooting by then...) with a mildly upgraded rifle.
It's like this....if you wanted a dozen matching blue marbles and reached blindly into a bag full of assorted marbles...you'd pull out a handful of random stuff. If you picked through and sorted out the ones that were the same shade of blue, were the same size, were perfectly round, etc...you'd end up with what you want. It would take more time (= $)...but you'd be happy. Same thing with a lot of stuff in life.
Buy cheap = buy twice (trust me on this...I've gone through tons of worthless half-assed sh*t in all my hobbies).
Buy a good battery and quit sweating it. The last thing you should be worried about is your battery...you should be out gaming.
