CA Scar-L Air leak?
I have a Classic Army Scar-l, mostly stock other than upgraded deans connectors and Deans Wires. When I open the cocking handle and expose the hop-up during firing I can feel a blast of air, is this normal? This is my first AEG. But it would seem to me that the less air down the barrel is a lower fps .... Any suggestions. Thanx.

Did you chrono it?

The previous owner chrono'ed it at about 280-290 and It's still pretty new to me. Reading some of the reviews showed stock scar's about 330 but other scar owners getting similar results to mine (280 range) I had just noticed there was a significant blast of air coming out of the hopup area when firing and wanted to know if there was a way to adjust the alignment of the gearbox to the hopup. Maybe that being the culprit.

CA quality is hit and miss, I've seen stock CA guns chrono anywhere from 260 to 330 to having a broken piston out of the box.
CA makes bad tappet plates, pistons and air nozzles, and if you in there fixing one thing you might as well fix them all. Shims, piston, tappet plate, piston head, cylinder head and nozzle should fix all the problems. |

A suggestion on another forum was asking if it had a ported piston, implying that might be where the air is coming from, (just to point out, the gun DOES shoot really well, insane ROF and feeds perfectly) thinking though if there IS air escaping maybee I can increase the fps by fixing where the air leak is coming from. Looking for a little input to see if there is a problem here or not. From the Airsoft extreme site that did a full teardown it is NOT a ported piston.

My CA SCAR CQC has a ported cylinder. It's on the right side. It's about 9/16" X 1/4" pill shaped.
