thoise damn commericals
Is it just me or recently they have become the more popalur thing to do in ASC? I'm seeing like 10 different threads in 2 days (just on the very top ones) Is there any chance where ASC would require a self intro before posting?

Until then, just hit the report button and spam the spammers.

Sure there is way to stop it. On some forums, you first post is checked by a mod who will approve or deny your membership.

Sorry guys, I agree, the spam has been getting really ridiculous lately, to the point where we're cleaning it out about 3 times per day.
We're in the works of looking in to new board software that should hopefully stop that, but the migration will take a while and it won't happen for another couple of months. Bear with us for a while. |

I wonder if this spam generate profit to the sender anyway. I personnaly would never buy or contact someone who spamed my account.

Replacing the forum software for a spam problem is sort of extreme, don't you think? That's kind of like replacing your car because it needs new brakes shoes.
There are add-ons that will add a CAPTCHA code box for signing up to the board in the first place. That will stop 100% of spam bots right there, preventing them from signing up in the first place. Not much can be done about stopping the bots that were set loose after an actual person set up an account, as it happens sometimes. But those are easy to deal with.

I don't think it matters, any fix gets nailed by the bots. Just ignore it and move on. Our board at work that I mod on keeps all new users posts invisible so we burn off the junk before it's visible, but it's frustrating for the new users that they can't get right in and start posting.

Well we're looking in to changing the software for more reasons other than spam prevention, but we're putting spam prevention as one of the necessary features of an upgrade.
Unfortunately, all of the admins are pretty busy for the next couple of months and don't have much time to look in to researching an add-on solution - and if we have time to do something like that, we're going to go right ahead and do the full conversion. Miles use to do upgrades very frequently, but he's been so busy lately that things are just starting to get outdated. |

Ok, fair enough. If there are other reasons to want to upgrade, then it's all good...

Is this the same software switch that's been in the works for the past year and a half or so?
