Make guns look aged
I've always been a WW2 fan and a fan of old fashion things, i got my ww2 whermacht gears and a german kar98 (tanaka brand) rifle for airsoft, now the problem is they look too new, especially the rifle.
I've tried some noobish ways to make the wood on the gun to look old and rotten, i was also looking for a way for the metal on the rifle to worn off abit as well. Does anyone on forum has any experience on this kinda case? Thx!

What kind of metal is it?
quick google search and I found this: Aging Metal Parts: To make new steel or brass parts look old, you can use this formulae: (2) oz. Lemon or Lime juice (2) oz. Chlorine bleach (2) oz. Vinegar (1) Tablespoon of salt Mix well, and immerse parts in the solution for 30 minutes or longer, depending on how much you want to accelerate the oxidization. When you have the desired amount of oxidization, rub with steel wool. You can use some gun bluing or browning to tone the finish, then seal with clear. This formulae works great when aging chicken wire camo baskets. |

For the wood bits, I'd suggest dragging it through the mud (wood only), letting it sit and dry, and then cleaning it. Weathering takes time...additionally, dragging it across other rough surfaces works aswell...just don't be an idiot and say that carpet doesn't work.

For the wood; remove the varnish (if any) and rub with linseed oil. The rest will take time.

hahaha yes.
i also find that sanding down the metal in spots where you commonly touch it (safety, bolt, trigger, etc) reveals plain metal underneath the factory finish, making it look like you wore down the finish by using it for a 'long time'. just go slow and use a very fine grit of sand paper also, for the wood, i gave a table i made a 'worn' appearance by taking little rocks, from a school playground, and what you do is take 1 rock and put it on the wood, then tap it in to the wood lightly with a hammer. then remove the rock and you have a little divot in the wood, just like if you had dropped it on rocks or something. i dont know. just dont do it too much. you can get creative with the rocks, scraping them over the surface can make cool little scratches. the key here is to make it look random. and dont over do it!
