AK grips - need matching help
Hi,
I recently purchased a wood rear stock, but it doesn't match the rest of the grips on the AK, which I knew before purchasing. I'm posting some pictures, so if anyone knows what kind of grips (fore grip, pistol grip) would match correctly (or closely) please speak up Thanks, Andrew ignore the screw sticking out of the stock and the black tape, still need to do some modifications to make the buttstock fit properly. |

Droc or Dracheous I know have made wood kits, and know a bit about wood. You'll want to match the wood type to get a similar grain pattern, then take your stock to a hardware store to find a matching stain.

What you have there is a laminated AK stock. That's what gives it the "striped" look. This is created by sandwiching many layers of (pine) plywood together at 90 degree angles and then using a resin material to cure them together. When the stock is machined the contours expose the different layers.
I browsed around WGC and couldn't find any wood kits that were of the laminated variety. Gunner's stocks a chinese made kit, although it includes the buttstock as well for $52USD. If you do decide to commission someone to make you the parts you need, the material you are looking for is "Russian pine plywood", it's avail in various thicknesses @ homedept in big fracking sheets. The stain (if I remember correctly) is MinWax Polyshades Bombay Mahogany 380/480. Or at least that's what I used when I did my woodkit on my RPK so very long ago and it was the correct shade. |

Looks like an AKM stock to me, Romanian? Egyptian?
Could be wrong though. IMO, convert it to an AKM either way Cheers, Alex
