importation service Toronto
I am planning to buy an expensive gun from evike (think in 475$USD range).
I am curious to know if there are importation services that I can use in Toronto area that may be cheaper or safer to use than me doing it myself. thanks in advance eh!

Im not fully sure I know what you mean by importation service but ill share with you what i know.
If a gun is Canada Legal, then there's no reason why Evike simply cant ship direct to your door. They list explicitly on their site which guns are Canada-legal. This is arguably the cheapest and most time-efficient method. If what you are looking to do is a cross-border pickup, where you ship it to a service somewhere south of the border and then drive back with it, the same limitations apply; upon bringing it into Canada, at the very least you should be declaring the value of your goods. Assuming you are only crossing south for a few hours, you are not eligible for a peesonal exemption and will be required to pay tax upon re-entering Canada. At this point you will have to fill out a form and a CBSA officer will asses how much you owe. Same restrictions for the gun being Canada-legal apply, and the CBSA officer will likely require you to provide documented proof that the gun fires within the Canada-safe fps range. Picking up yourself there is always a chance the border officer decides not to charge you tax, but there is no guarentee either way. Assuming you do find a cross-border importation service that will manage all this for you, I cant possibly imagine how it would be cheaper than having it shipped direct to your door in the first place. |

On my $500 ish dollar order from Evike, I think I paid around $60 in taxes etc at my door. It's definitely not 20%, GST is 5% if I'm not mistaken.

Can you really just buy directly from evike nowadays? A couple years ago buying any gun outside of Canada had a huge risk of it being seized/being slapped with fees.

I already paid and my package is with CBSA for review. I hope they don't take long. Once I get the package I will post an update on the details.

I don't get charged duties as there are no airsoft guns made in Canada so hence no duty. Taxes yes, $500 was about $67 bucks.

As promised here is my experience of the whole thing:
I placed order for DD-MK18 made by G&P/EMG on Nov2 from evike. The item took a while to be shipped but was sent out on Nov8. It arrived at Canadian border on Nov14 and was sent to CBSA for further processing in Missisauga/ON. It was released from CBSA on Nov19 to be sent to me. First attempt of delivery was nov21st which I was not home. I set a delivery to local post office before hand but they still tried a second delivery. thanks to rotating strike at canadapost, it took me until nov27 to actually pick up the package. As for the cost: item cost about 475$USD and another 56$USD on top for shipping. duty fee was 91.50$CAD exact. This is about 13.5% of claimed value when converted USD to CAD. next time I will pay for 100$USD shipping to use UPS instead.

That! Don't ever use a private carrier to ship things crossborder. They will rape you with tons of hidden fees.
