Maple Armouries SBR
Hey all,
I'm trying to drum up info on the relatively obscure Maple Armouries SBR. I'd link the store page but I don't want any AV issues with this post I found a reddit review and a video by Krampus Airsoft which indicate that it's very good for the price. What I'd like to know: 1. When was this gun released? Has it been out for long enough to get any user background? 2. To me it looks like a gun/mechbox made of no-name parts. I am not nearly knowledgeable enough to discern what I'm looking at. Could someone with more experience give some feedback? At the end of the day, it's a very cheap full metal gun but can this Canadian Manufacturer with no background be trusted? I hope the community can help. Thanks as always Last edited by macdrian; November 20th, 2017 at 23:54.. Reason: words and formatting |

Actually, it's released by a buddy of mine (Jake from Maple Airsoft Supply). I don't actually know the specs or what it is (because as Bio said, VFC master race), but if you like, you can contact Jake through his website and ask him.

Internals are from the same factory as ZCI. Some of the parts are the same quality as aftermarket ZCI parts, some of them are cheaper in order to keep the cost down to be at a more affordable price bracket.

Foodbasics sent me a PM. I'm going to post it up since it 100% answers all my questions. I bolded the questions so it's easier to read but it's otherwise verbatim.
Hi Macdrian, A friend linked me to your thread and I was just wanted to introduce you to our SBR and answer your questions from the thread. 1. When was this gun released? Has it been out for long enough to get any user background? We received various samples starting in the 2nd half of 2016 and finalized a production version that was released in October 2017, so it's pretty new for sure. 2. To me it looks like a gun/mechbox made of no-name parts. I am not nearly knowledgeable enough to discern what I'm looking at. Could someone with more experience give some feedback? The parts are comparable/identical to aftermarket zci/shs, with the exception of the motor which is just a standard motor. The gun is quite durable and very reliable. The gun definitely does not feel cheap, it's somewhat hefty and very solid with no wobble. The gun also comes with two pmag style midcaps which are extremely nice and some consider to be one of the best midcaps on the market. Definitely comparable to the PTS EPM at a much more attractive price point. I hope that gives you a little insight into our latest products. We used to distribute LCT products before deciding to focus more on ARs and the goal was to adopt a similar mindset as LCT for build quality, quality control, etc. Lastly, while VFC is an excellent brand, I feel that the value for our gun is unbeatable. Comparing it to the most popular $400 VFC Fighter, you get a similar external build quality and slightly better gearbox internals on the MAS SBR. The VFC will have a slightly better stock motor. Adding a shs or zci high torque motor as well as a basic 3034 mosfet would bring the MAS quite far above the stock VFC and you'd still be a fair amount under $400. Thanks for your interest in our products! We have a few retailers on board to carry our offerings and more to come. Of course if you have any questions don't hesitate to message me on Facebook or email at Jacob@MapleAirsoftSupply.ca. |

Isn't the standard vfc motor kinda bleh?

You can assume all internals on any gun/brand is mediocre, what matters is the externals, and the build quality of it.
You'll be upgrading the internals over it's life span anyways, but you cannot simply swap random uppers and lowers without spending a fortune. I.e VFC upper is around $80 usd shipped. |

Quite a few of the parts you'd probably be buying are already in the gun. Yes, the motor is not great but it didn't make sense to pay for an above average stock motor when most people will just get a shs or zci motor anyway. |

I recently got my very own SBR and I'm thoroughly impressed with what i got for the price. I haven't gotten a chance to game with it so I can't comment on the performance yet, but externally I have only 2 gripes with it. The selector switch isn't very tight on mine or the other models I handled, also the detents should be snappier so i can really feel each position. Also would be nice to have a bolt catch, it can add to the premium feel of a gun plus it's just convenient.

Is it possible to get aftermarket selector switches that have more positive detents?

Anyone else with feedback on this brand?

Excellent starter gun / upgrade platform. The only catch is you 100% have to upgrade the motor because the one they include is poop, but it's intended.
The gears are ZCI/SHS grade, which are common aftermarket upgrade brands. I owned one for a while as a loaner / starter gun thing. Would definitely recommend it as a starter. Only got rid of it because I'm cutting my collection of guns down to one primary + one bolt action + one pistol plus whatever my girlfriend wants to use.
